CAMERON ROGERS: Making of a fast buck

The SMU Mustangs lose only three starters from last year's defense to graduation, but one is linebacker Pete Fleps, one of the Ponies' most productive defensive players the last three years. Into the void created by his graduation steps Cameron Rogers, the former high school running back/safety who walked on at SMU and had to wait his turn while learning from the veteran Fleps. Rogers visited with PonyFans.com to discuss what he learned from Fleps, the adjustments he made while learning his new position, and his thoughts about the potential of the Ponies' 2011 defense.

Enjoy!

Another great story. How does Cameron compare to Fleps athletically?

Ironic how these "all-knowing" D-1 recruiters overlook players from winning and hard-working programs like Abilene Wylie. Those guys go to college with a chip on their shoulders and become very good college players. Cameron's former high school teammate and qb hasn't done too bad either what with so few offers coming out of high school......Case Keenum, UH qb and Heismann candidate! Shame we still are beating the bushes in neighboring states when there are so many winners in Texas! They can't all go to UT and A&M.

I'm no more of an expert than anyone on here, but from what I have seen, it looks like Rogers might be a step faster. Obviously he isn't as experienced as Fleps, but that will come. He sounds like he has a really good head on his shoulders.
