Update on Evan Huahulu

Leading the charge of those great athletes is the man who looks to be the anchor of the 3-4 defense, nose guard Evan Huahulu.

The junior transfer from Southern Methodist University will finally be suiting up for the Aggies after sitting out last season due to transfer rules, and his potential impact up the middle is something the coaching staff knows could be great.

"Evan has an opportunity to be a tremendous player," USU head coach, and new defensive coordinator, Gary Andersen said.

That potential greatness isn't without it's kinks that need to be worked out however.

"Evan has a few technical things that we're working on as far as his technique," Maile said. "When Evan decides to clean everything up as far as his technique and when he gets everything down, there's no nose guard like him in the WAC."

Were grades the reason he transferred from SMU? I hated to see him go!

I am not sure that was ever clear, at least not to me.

Religion issue, I presume.

Meaning he was an atheist or or Mormon and June couldn't accept someone on his team with those views, or meaning that he wanted to move some place where there were more around him sharing his views? Something else?

I heard it was "motivation". He was on a great
high school team and college ball was not as easy for him.
Wish him well with his new team.

Thanks for your kind words, Evan is doing well at USU and has a chance to make a difference there. But I am sitting here laughing at the speculation. No, it wasn't grades or religion...just a better fit at USU. There is a large polynesian community there which makes him feel much more "at home". And psssst....we're Methodist

GO MUSTANGS!!!!!

Mama, will we see you on the Blvd. this year? Good for Evan, just wish it was here in Dallas. Best of luck to you and your family.

I hope Evan thrives at USU, and his family generally. I'm sorry SMU did not work out for him but I'll always keep an eye out for him.

If you're ever on the Boulevard, Mrs H, let us know!

Oh yes, we definitely plan on attending as many home games as possible. Evan made many friends on the team that he is still in contact with and we are looking forward to being there to watch them play this season. It will be nice to see our Mustang friends again :D

Never in my time in the history of PonyFans has a player done so little for SMU but received so much excessive attention.

I just don't get that.

Don't get me wrong, I wish him well wherever he is at. But like him, it's time for the SMU fans to move on.

I really hope this is the LAST thread we read about him. I totally understand the Bo Levi Mitchell threads.

This? No

So what exactly would you presume the religion issue to be?

What are you so bitter about?

A lot of us appreciate the fact that his family still supports the program, even after his departure.

LOL, how funny is this? If he, in fact, joined in November of 2010 he came here long after Evan left SMU. Besides, this is the first mention of Evan on ponyfans in many, many months. Move on? Believe me, Evan has moved on...but he still has many friends that he is close with that play at SMU. The way we found out about this thread was when Evan came here looking for information about how his friends did on pro day. We found it kind of funny that people assumed he left because of religious or academic issues and I felt the need to clear the air. Might I suggest that if you have no interest in reading a thread...simply don't click on it  I wander by from time to time to see what's happening and read up on the kids I know that still play there. It's also great to have the opportunity to say hello to some of the fans we had the chance to meet. We did not start this thread but it was nice to see that someone still was keeping an eye on Evan...the interest and well wishes are greatly appreciated.
