Armed Forces Bowl at SMU

ESPNDallas.com

The Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl will be played at SMU's Gerald Ford Stadium for the second straight season while TCU continues renovations to Amon G. Carter Stadium.

This year's game takes place on Dec. 30 and will be broadcast on ESPN. Last year's game was moved to SMU because of improvements being made at TCU. The game is scheduled to return to Fort Worth in 2012, TCU athletic director Chris Del Conte said.

Last year's game, in which Army defeated SMU 16-14, drew an SMU-record crowd of 36,742.

"We are excited to serve as the host of the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl for the second straight year," SMU AD Steve Orsini said in a statement.

Not surprising. Hopefully we will not be bowling in our own stadium for the 2nd year in a row. (Last year was fine, it was nice to have a bonus Boulevard. But prefer not to again.)

Yeah, that might have contributed to the team's lackluster effort versus Army. Personally I'd like to see them in the Liberty Bowl or Hawaii Bowl this season.

I imagine we will definitely be in this one unless we are in Memphis.

I would think that would be great incentive for the team.

I definitely want them to play in Memphis. But short of that, I would be thrilled if they returned to FOrd for the Bowl game. That was a great atmosphere for a game and a great environment for SMU fans.

That may have been a Ford Stadium record crowd - but definitely NOT an SMU record crowd. We DID used-to-be BIG time.

We will be a better team. THe harder schedule is a great test for the character, depth and abilities of this team. I am excited about a higher caliber of competition this year. In the last couple of decades the goal has been wins. Now the goal should be quality wins against quality opponents and better post season bowls.
