Lost in the discussions about how SMU will replace outgoing seniors like Aldrick Robinson and Pete Fleps is the fact that the Mustangs also have to find a new kicker and punter after the graduation of Matt Szymanski. Holding the inside track on both jobs is Mike Loftus, who visited with PonyFans.com to talk about his approach to his jobs, his early impressions of new special teams coach Frank Gansz, Jr., and how the new NCAA rules changes will affect his performance.

Enjoy!

There hasn't been much talk about this guy, but he's going to be crucial to the 2011 season. Thanks, PP — good report.

Mike was selected to play for the USA team when he graduated from high school. He knows how to kick. He will handle the kicking game for many years.
