Dan Beebe didn't kill the Big 12; he saved it Dan Beebe once was an NCAA investigator, a job which commands all the public appeal of an IRS agent.
The NCAA was hiring, so Beebe signed on. He worked SMU's Pony Excess case and OU's.
What a tool!
Note: Thad should get a copyright for his "Pony Excess" terminology!

To be fair, in this day and age being a conference commissioner would be a terrible job.
The conference still exists not because of his strength, but because he was weak enough to give the whorns everything they wanted. Now that Texas has the best deal on the globe, they will fight all of his fights for him. All he did was hire the bully to protect him. That isn't strength, it is cunning, crafty and sly.
