ROBERT MOJICA: Getting his kicks

Postby PonyPride » Tue Apr 26, 2011 9:06 pm

Robert Mojica is, if nothing else, versatile. When Sports Illustrated named Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif., as the No. 1 sports high school in the country, it was Mojica (not future USC quarterback Matt Barkley) who was named the school's Male Athlete of the Year, for his work on his school's football, soccer, track and baseball teams.

Now Mojica is at it again. A former walk-on at SMU who not only made the team but earned a scholarship as a defensive back, Mojica is now trying to add another job, as he is working out with the Mustangs' kickers. Mojica visited with PonyFans.com to discuss how he generates the power in his kicks, the last time he kicked (a football) in a game, and his outlook on the kicking competition.

Enjoy!

This is a good thing. Kickers and punters, as much as any position on the team, need competition.

I'm glad to see Mojica and Farkas trying out.
Nothing against Loftus ... maybe he's going to be a star ... but until we KNOW he's a star, open the competition to anyone who wants a shot at it.

I wish the Dallas Cowboys would allow their kickers to compete! Jerry thinks he knows everything...still.

Well, Jerry did sign veteran Kris Brown at the end of the season, so presumably he (and maybe some free agent rookie?) will get to compete with David Buehler.
