Who will be the Starter to replace...

Postby westexSMU » Wed Apr 27, 2011 12:39 am

graduated CB Sterling Moore ? This is a huge question if we are going to have a real good team this year. Since I have not been able to attend any spring practices this year, I was wondering if any players presently on the team look like they might step up. Former CB Moore was so important to our football team last year as we only won one game last year without him. If no replacement has stepped up so for, we will be waiting on a possible JUCO replacement, who will be moving from safety at Junior College to cornerback here in the fall, or a true freshman will have to step into the position. Maybe it would not hurt to keep trying to recruit another CB over the next few months. Without a decent replacement, it will screw up our 2011 season.

Sounds like Keith Robinson is running with the first team, but I bet that's one competition that carries into two-a-days.

Robinson is running with the first team while Parks and Acker are right on his heels. If I had to make a guess today who will start when we play the aggies on opening...my guess would be Acker. It is nice to see the competition..makes everyone better

Seems like I've heard Acker's name mentioned quite a bit in practice reports. Also, the recruit that I'm most excited about other than Davon Moreland is James Richardson (corner from Baton Rouge). I'd think he has a real chance to play early at corner.

Well I read, on a pay site this morning, that Coach Mason says he is pleased with the progress of the two young cornerbacks and that he feels good about our depth this year at the position. Thats good enough for me.

Isn't Maurice Hood the most likely starter at CB. I thought the JUCO transfer was supposed to be converting from S to CB.

Hood will be a factor yes, but its a huge step up from playing at Tyler JC to lining up against Texas A&M. Granted the guy was a two time JUCO All-American at safety. It'll be interesting to see how the depth chart shakes out in the fall.

He's a JUCO who is moving to a new position.
Maybe he will end up starting, but how can anyone assume he'll start at a new position when he hasn't even set foot on campus yet?

Are the CB's who are likely to start this year at least a little taller than they have been?

I don't know much about individual physical stats but, aside from Moore, it seems like the majority of our CB's last year were like 5'8.

Kenneth Acker is listed at 6 feet, and Parks is listed at 6-1.

CB Keith Robinson, the present starter to replace Moore going into spring, is 5'9".

the level in Texas JUCO is pretty high-much higher than any high school around. Not as big a jump as a true freshman. But when a JUCO does not make it for spring practice they generally are going to need at least a month of transition EVEN IF they are quality Division 1A prospects. That's always been my perpective-and Crawford was a pretty classic example last year. I would love to get some of these JUCOs in at mid-term
