Let's all send a message to ESPN that we'd like to be called SMU and not "Southern Methodist". For whatever reason, they don't do the same thing to TCU, so why us?

I just sent mine. It took two minutes. Just click the contact us link at the bottom of their website.

I'm not sure why this is a problem. A lot of people think "SMU" is Southern Miss.

As soon as we beat Texas Agriculture & Mechanics in the opener, they'll call us SMU again.

This is ignorant, being called Southern Methodist and SMU interchangeably just helps brand recognition by creating a correlation between the two names. You do not hear USC fans complaining about being called USC or Southern California... Pick your battles with ESPN (not like they really care anyways).

We need to be SMU and not anything else. It does not build a brand to confuse it.

Fine wiith our heritage - but in the sports world we are SMU - and thats it.

I agree. It has always annoyed me how we are called Southern Methodist and TCU is called TCU by every news source.

My estimate is that 90% of the country has no idea who Southern Methodist is. But 70 % have probably heard of SMU

That is the point to my argument, ESPN calling us both names helps fix this problem. Another thing we need to do better is to create a national correlation between SMU / Southern Methodist and the city of Dallas.

He's right, we need to be called SMU not Southern Methodist. Has nothing to do with school pride...

The only accomplishment in being called "Southern Methodist" is that there are now people that believe there is a school by that name that is entirely separate from SMU.

Mel Kiper mare several references to "Texas Christian" during the draft. Oh, the horror.

Think of the shame Tyron Smith must feel when someone says he's from "Southern Cal." Yes, I know the school calls itself "USC" or "SC" but people also have said "Southern Cal" for years.
