NCAA focuses guns on Boise St.

The NCAA has charged Boise State with a lack of institutional control following an alleged major violation in women's tennis and secondary violations in four sports, including football.

The school released its official response to the allegations Monday evening and will go before the NCAA's Committee on Infractions June 10. A final report and penalties will be issued several months after that meeting.

"We are deeply committed to following all NCAA rules and to ensuring that our athletic department works diligently so that our procedures reflect the highest standard," Boise State president Bob Kustra said in a statement. "I am disappointed that we face these allegations. It is unacceptable, and the athletic department staff understand and agree with my position."

The university has made fixes, done its own internal investigation and hired a new compliance officer, Kustra said.

The secondary violations in football involved impermissible housing, transportation and/or meals to prospective student-athletes from 2005 to 2009.

In all, the NCAA found the total value of impermissible benefits through five years was $4,934 for all of the housing, transportation and meals provided to 63 incoming student-athletes. All services ranged from $2.34 to a maximum of $417.55 and have been reimbursed by the student-athletes.

We all knew that someone would have to be punished for the Auburn misdoings. It is the Easter story with this time Boise State playing the lead role of sacrificing for the sins of the others.

How true. Don't forget the Ohio State transgressions had to be responded to. Thank goodness they've found Boise State to pick on.

With both Ohio State and Auburn (and don't forget Tennessee basketball), the NCAA has to do something to look tough. My view it will hammer UCF and Boise for these violations and declare that North Dakota must forfeit all its hockey games for using an illegal mascot.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Poor North Dakota... The State Senate passed a law making it illegal for them to change their name/logo - no matter what the NCAA says. The NCAA has already said it must wear plain white or green jersies in all televised hockey games. Just numbers and names. No logos of any kind.

I wonder who the person was that got $2.34 of extra benefit? Did the coach or booster buy them a small coffee? 26 years of probation for a small cup of coffee (since Boise has big shoulders they will serve the cumulative punishment time for Ohio St., Auburn, USC - when they win their appeal, and Tenn (hoops).

The amount is so small, compared to the time period, BS must have turned themselves in. Given FBI tapes and whatnot, they couldn't find Auburn guilty of anything; and of course, USC continues to recruit...

TCU will be next--arguing cruel and unsual punishment for housing players in Ft. Worth.

The football team announced that they will self-impose 3 scholarships and three summer/fall practices for their role in this scandal.
