The Miami Dolphins like WRs from JJ's system

Postby Garret » Mon May 09, 2011 11:21 pm

They tend to like wide receivers from the June Jones/Hawaii/SMU system because you can guarantee those guys have run a lot of routes and caught a lot of balls, and they know how to catch a football.

Current Miami roster:

Devone Bess, WR, Hawaii, '08

So they have at least one receiver, who also starts, from that system, and I would guess that means they are familiar with JJ/UH/SMU.

Also have Ikaika Alama-Francis, LB, Hawaii, '07 on the team for further recognition of that program.

As much as I want to believe the thought here, I just don't quite see it. Salas went to the Rams at pick #112. The Dolphins selected another WR (not from Hawaii or SMU) at pick #111.

The Dolphins did bring in a former Hawaii receiver to their camp last year (Ryan Grice-Mullen) who happened to have been a teammate and best bud with Davone Bess. But, he was injured during much of camp and was eventually waived. I haven't seen any other JJ-related receiver in the current Dolphins regime.
I do recall (in '08 and '09) either the Dophins' receivers coach, or OC, or Sparano raving about Bess' college experience in JJ's system and the volume of balls caught by the receivers, as well as their route-running acumen.

Hopefully, with Davone, and Emmanuel, and Aldrick, a nice trend is being established.

Don't forget the guys before them, Ashley Leilie & Chad Owens and the guys that will soon arrive, Salas & Pilaris.

Did Phil Bennett's non-qualifier recruit Rodney Bradley ever catch on with any NFL team. Bennett actually did a great job at WR recruiting in his last years with Sanders, Robinson and Bradley

Bradley wasn't the same player after he broke his leg during the Hawaii-Idaho game.

He had a great Jr season prior to breaking his leg. He played soft after his injury and seemed afraid of contact.

Don't think any NFL team is interested in him.

Phil did a good job recruiting those guys, but Sanders and Robinson, both 2 Star recruits out of high school I believe, give credit to JJs system for what they learned that has put them in the NFL.

Bennet's offense may have outperformed JJs so far...Not sure of the numbers but Rusty Burns had it going....
