GREG BRUCE

Postby ALEX LIFESON » Mon May 23, 2011 7:44 am

Just letting all of the many friends of Greg Bruce know, that he passed away last night. He lost his battle to cancer, but punched his ticket for his greatest reward. June Jones went to visit Greg last week, and it was a big thrill for Greg, because he was one of the biggest Mustang fans ever. His friend Jason Maynard will have service info soon.

How incredibly sad. A wonderful man, gone much too soon.
The world, specifically Mustang Nation, is a lesser place today. Rest in peace, Greg.

Love you Greg. After going to his home a few times I did not want to see Greg in the last stage of this battle. I remember Greg as strong and passionate as he yelled for his Mustangs to play well. I thank him for holding me as I cried when we won the game and were going to our first bowl game in 25 years. Good Man, Lord, please give him a hug for me!

I'm glad you mentioned how strong and passionate Greg was in his cheering. I'm not sure I ever heard a PonyFan cheer as loudly or with as much passion as Greg. He was a fixture on the Boulevard who got to games early and stayed to the end.

I met him for the first time on the Boulevard, and he welcomed me at his spot like we were lifelong friends. What a great PonyFan, a great Mustang and a great young man.

Greg will be sorely missed in so many ways. Smu has lost a great fan and supporter. The Blvd will never be quite the same. Greg's Blvd spot was one of the most popular before, during, and post game. We can all say we were lucky to have known him. Hopefully Greg's 1 year old baby girl will attend SMU one day. That would certainly please him.

RIP Greg Bruce and condolences to his family.

Greg was one of the most welcoming, giving and friendly people I have known. When I moved back from Houston he welcomed me into his tailgating group and became a great friend. Enjoyed all the times I spent with him on the blvd, at games, St Paddy's day parades, etc. One of the greatest mustang fans I have ever met and a great person, father and husband. I am so thankful I was able to know him, albeit for too short a time. He will be missed greatly by many.

Oh my. I had no idea he was sick. He was WAY too young. And he will definitely be missed on the Boulevard. If anyone was set up on the Boulevard before our crew (and that was rare), it was Greg and his gang.

Terrible news.

A service celebrating Greg’s life will be held at 2:00 on Thursday, May 26 at the sanctuary of Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane. In lieu of flowers, Greg and Megan have asked that donations be made in his name to continue research on brain cancer cures to Baylor Neuro-Oncology Foundation, in care of Karen Fink, M.D., Ph.D., 3600 Gaston Avenue, Suite 100, Dallas, TX 75246. I hope as many of you who can attend will come and join us in celebrating what a wonderful person Greg was, and how great he lived his life.

Never had the pleasure of meeting Greg, but obviously he was way too young to have this happen to him. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I have spent this evening perusing Pony Soprano's posts. If anyone wants or needs some uplifting inspiration, go to his post on September 14, 2006 where he discusses his first realization of his cancer and the ongoing relationship he developed with one of the assistant coaches of the Bennett era. It is an amazing rendition of how people who do not really know each other can bond through tragic circumstances.

I only met Greg once and never knew his real name, only Pony Soprano. He was a member of section 104, and will missed there, on the Boulevard, and in life.

Two years ago I made Greg a bloody Mary with tequila it was the worst bloody Mary I ever made. Didn't really notice HOW bad it taste till I poured one later. THE man drank it and said it was fine LOL.

On occation you meet quality people who care about others, share, and our what I call the beautufull people.
