Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?Chicago Tribune reports breaking news, as well,
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/br ... 4982.story Urban Myer would be a great choice, but has he had enough of a sabbatical after leaving Florida? Also, not sure Gary Patterson is a Big Ten type of guy. Pony Up
Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next? Why would Meyer or Patterson walk into that mess?
GO MUSTANGS!
Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?
The last line of the article says that they have an interim coach for the season. Urban Myer is not going to come back for the upcoming season. So he would be a viable candidate for next season. Patterson? Would he really go? Yes, It would be a huge jump in pay. Before the Purple crowd gets all lathered up, let's face it OSU has more money that you do. It would also be a massive jump in prestige, let's face it OSU is considered college football elite. As a fan of College Football I would like to see Patterson finish what he started. They have had a couple of great seasons, but are not considered a part of the "Elite". Purple lunatics calm down... They are not considered "Elite" as a part of perception. A couple of years in the BE and the NY, Mid Atlantic, and NE media markets taking notice will change that perception. I wonder if OSU would want to make a key hire from the "little sisters of the poor". Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall
Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?
A great question... My only answer would be the number of zeros in the paycheck. If Ohio State wants to get a big name coach to take this job, their opening offer would need to be high enough to get Nick Saban to blush. Urban Myer and Gary Patterson are going to have other offers and none of the NCAA Sanctions to go along. Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall
Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?Although Gary Patterson would be a great coach at Ohio State and it would seem like a "reincarnacion" of Woody Hayes, Meyer is the man if he still has the passion and "want to". Not sure Gary would want to be under the scrutiny and expectations in Columbus since Fort Worth fans look the other way at his character issues since they are winning football games and graduating players.
Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?
Meyer is an Ohio-breg guy, and if he were to walk in there and clean that place up, he would be in the top pantheon of coaches in the history of college football. Plus, a gigantic paycheck always has some allure. For Patterson, it would be a no-brainer. As much as it pains me to say this, he should be very proud of what he has done at TCU. But let's be honest, they have fewer people at their home games than Ohio State has at its spring games. TCU pays him what, $2 million? $3 million? Ohio State could arrange a shoe deal for him that is almost that big. He lives very well in Fort Worthless, but Ohio State can offer so much more. The Big 10/11 isn't a great conference, by any means, but it's better than the Mountain West and Big East. At TCU his big showdown is with who, Utah? Put that up against Ohio State/Michigan — no contest. Plus ... how funny would it be to watch the Ohio State president backpedal from his "little sisters of the poor" comment the first time a reporter asked him about his new coach? That would be priceless, but I'm afraid that alone would mean Ohio State won't touch him, because the higher-ups won't want to put their president in that awkward position. HOORAY, BEER!
Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next? One might consider what the NCAA does to OSU (or more importantly, the little nobody team he NCAA hammer's for OSU's transgressions) before accepting the position.
IF the NCAA does as we expect, then Meyer, Patterson or any other candidate will step into a system with all its capacities and abilities in tact. If the NCAA actually does something to OSU for this mess, then perhaps one would have second thoughts about a multi year rebuild job.
Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?
Just curious. What are the "character issues" the Fort Worth fans ignore? Both he and his wife seem to be fixtures in most of the area charitable events and community drives.
Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next? Can't say must of us didn't see this coming. I knew Tressel's days were numbered.
I agree that Patterson wouldn't be a good fit. I also see Meyer as a viable candidate in a year. Any chance the university president could also be on the chopping block potentially for his blind allegiance to Tressel? Derail the Frogs!
Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?Almost drove off the road listening to an Ohio State former player saying that since most of the problems were with Tressel's misleading the NCAA that he did not feel there would be any additional penalties beyond the suspensions already in place.

Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?Defensive coordinator Luke Fickell will coach the Buckeyes through the 2011 season. School officials said they will not start searching for a coach until after this football season. Speculation about candidates will include Fickell and a bevy of coach with Ohio ties, especially former Florida coach, Ohio State graduate assistant and current ESPN analyst Urban Meyer.
Tressel went 106-22 in his 10 seasons with the Buckeyes, posting a better career winning percentage than school icon Woody Hayes. He led Ohio State to an unprecedented six straight Big Ten championships from 2005-2010. His crowning jewel is the 2002 BCS national championship, landed with a double-overtime Fiesta Bowl victory over heavy favorite Miami. But his success started going awry in January, with a Yahoo! Sports report that Tressel knew of two players selling team gear and memorabilia and didn’t report those NCAA violations to others in Ohio State leadership. His bosses first suspended him for two games, then five games, and he became the target of an ongoing NCAA investigation. Meanwhile, he served as a bull’s eye for media around the country and replaced Auburn quarterback Cam Newton as the face of college sport’s image problem. Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?Patterson has character issues? I don't think you really want to go down that road.

Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?My thoughts on each:
Patterson- would be a good fit and I'd love to see his defenses with Big ten talent and weather. I don't think he will take it though, TCU doen't have any possible sanctions upcoming and by moving to the BE will get to play for national championships pretty soon. Meyer- I'm not sure how well a spead offense will do in the Big Ten, (see michigan). Also how good of a coach is he? he did well with Tebow and Alex Smith, does he create the same success with only troy smith level talent at the QB position.
