News today about cars for players at OSU. I laughed out loud when I heard loudmouth Lou Holtz interviewed about Ohio State over the weekend. Holtz talked about how OSU ran such a clean program for so many years under Woody Hayes. I remember that SMU tried to recruit Rod Gerald, a Dallas high school star quarterback in the '70s. Woody very badly wanted Gerald. Sports Illustrated did a feature on Hayes and Gerald. The writer noted that Gerald's dad was a preacher and that Woody attended numerous services at the church where he placed crisp $100 bills in the offering plate. We lost that recruiting war to OSU and then went on probation for paying guys $15 to recover fumbles. Of course OSU was never investigated. I guess if your Dad is a preacher the coach can donate however much he likes to the church.

The NCAA won't do much of anything to Ohio State, sidestepping the obvious double-standard by saying it was Tressel, not the university, that broke the rules (riiiiiiiight).

Wouldn't be a surprise at all of the NCAA accepts OSU's self-punishment and doesn't hand out any more.

And they're saying Terrelle Pryor drove as many as EIGHT cars during his time there? EIGHT?
Nah, no reason to punish. No indication of a lack of institutional control...

I believe the NCAA defines lack of institutional control as driving 10 or more different cars during eligibility. Also, the Sgt. Schultz's I know nothing excuse is acceptable as long as its one of the NCAA sacred cows (nuts) that knows nothing.

The NCAA doesn't care how dirty ISU was/is. Look at the rules twister game the NCAA played to ensure ineligible players were 'eligible' for a bowl game. I watched one of the NCA rules guys try to explain why Pryor and the rest were eligible under the rules The NCAA is truly one of the most disgusting and vile organizations in the world.

And don't have any expectations or fantasies of OSU paying a price for all this. It won't happen.

The comparisons begin...

Buckeyes awaiting severe punishment

Anyone who saw the recent ESPN 30 for 30 documentary "Pony Excess" about the SMU cheating scandal -- or who lived through it -- knows that the Mustangs are the only major college football program to receive the NCAA's so-called death penalty.

Here we are, nearly a quarter-century after SMU received the death penalty, and yet another major college program, Ohio State, has been caught in blatant violation of NCAA rules.

The SMU case was about defiance. The Ohio State case seems to be about arrogance.

It will be interesting to see if a Public Non-Denominational U gets whacked similar to the Private Methodist Universities.

Somehow I don't think so!

With the amount of bad press the NCAA has had in the past 12 months. If they don't throw the book at OSU then all bets are off. College football will look more like it did in the 1980s than anything else, because all of the BCS Schools will realize there are no consequences to bad behavior. We would be screwed, but we are not a BCS school (yet).

Does anyone know when the infractions committee meeting for UNC is going to be? I think that will also give us an indication on what is going to happen here.

We all know how this will turn out.

OSU will investigate allegations. This will be completed and turned over to the NCAA in the spring of 2012.

The NCAA will review this information and complete its review in Feb of 2013. Then the NCAA and OSU will then meet to discuss the information. This will be completed by the late spring of 2014 (right after the NFL draft which will feature the #1 pick form OSU).

The NCAA will then launch its own investigation which will be completed in Dec of 2015. Final report and penalties will be issued in the summer of 2016. OSU will appeal the decision

The appeal will be completed by summer of 2017 at which time, penalties (if any) will be in place. So OSU has a solid 6 years before any of this matters.

In the mean time, OSU’s interim coach will not win the Big X (+II)’s championship this fall and be fired. In Dec of 2011, OSU announces its newest coach, June Jones. Jones will win 3 Big X (+II) championships, go to 4 BSC bowls and win one national championship before retiring after the 2016 season. SMU will go a collective 10-50 over the same period of time.

The NCAA will hand out 3 death penalties to three Div 1AA schools for lack of institutional control involving women’s tennis, men’s sculling and cross country. The NCAA will proclaim it has adequate control over the activities of its member institutions.

Pryor, with the help of other disgraced OSU athletes will write and produce a documentary about the abuse they suffered at OSU and at the hands of the NCAA. It will air on EPN and win an ESPY award. Pryor makes millions off of it.

Treasel goes on to coach at UNLV where he wins a Mountain west title. This puts him back in good graces and he becomes Washington State's coach in the fall of 2015. He wins the Pac X (+ II) in 2016 and defeats OSU under Jones in the Tostitos Bowl. OSU players carry Treasel off the field on their shoulders.

One of the sport radio guys in the Cincinnati area thinks that OSU will get a reduction in scholarships of 10 per year for 3-4 years, no bowls or tv appearances. A lot of this depends on how far this reaches. It is hard to believe that the AD was clueless, not to mention the president of the university. If it extends farther, the punishments may even be more severe.

"Pryor drove up to a players-only team meeting on Monday night in a coal-black Nissan 350Z sports car with 30-day plates. The automotive information site Edmunds.com lists a recent,
used 350Z, which it calls ''a proper sports car for the everyman,'' as costing between $16,000
and $27,000."

this guy ain't too smart. You drive up with yet another loaner car after getting tickets with at least 3 loaner cars in the past. I saw some report that said he has driven 8 loaner cars but I wasn't sure if that was a smart-ass.

Very good. I was thinking perhaps "The Ohio State Blackeyes", or "I Thought I Saw a Pretty Tat". Maybe "Pryor to the Fall". Or finally "OSUR Guilty".
