When then-safety Randy McKinnon went down with a knee injury in SMU's win over UAB last September, his season — and perhaps his college career — was over. McKinnon worked all year to rehabilitate his knee, and petitioned the NCAA for an extra year of eligibility through a medical hardship waiver.

The NCAA handed down its ruling Tuesday, and McKinnon visited with PonyFans.com to discuss the verdict, his thoughts while waiting and who served as inspiration in his rehabilitation.

Enjoy!

Glad Randy got another chance. Graduating from Syracuse in three years is no small accomplishment, and to uproot and head to SMU for graduate school ... glad he'll get more than just the short time he had on the field last year before he got hurt.
Good luck this season, Randy!
