Lets not forget to pile on...

By The Associated Press

(AP) -- Now that the NCAA has denied Southern California's appeal to reduce sanctions imposed on its football program, Bowl Championship Series officials will consider whether to strip the Trojans of their 2004 title.

BCS executive director Bill Hancock says there is no timetable for that decision, but he expected it to happen "sooner, rather than later."

The championship would be left vacant and not awarded to another team.

USC won the 2004 national championship by beating Oklahoma 55-19 in the Orange Bowl to complete a perfect season. The NCAA later ruled Trojans star Reggie Bush had received improper benefits and was ineligible for that season.

Auburn and Utah also finished the '04 season unbeaten.

The AP will not vacate the championship it awarded USC for 2004.

And what do the sponsors get for this farce? A new plague that says, "Proud Sponsor of the 2004 National Vacated Championship."

Someone needs to ask our frield Bill why he is so interested in making that decision instead of why the BCS didn't strip the Fiesta Bowl of its certification in light of its huge scandal.

Stripping schools is so cliche' and only proves that these organizations are "really really doing something.'' That's just pure bullshift.

If the damn BCS is going to be consistent about something like this, then go all the way.

And during this whole thing, the NCAA was just a passenger in the backseat of the sedan looking out the window.

Asked and Answered...

Playoff PAC

Based on records secured and provided by Playoff PAC, the Associated Press is reporting that at least 9 officials on the NCAA's Postseason Bowl Licensing Subcommittee accepted a three-day golf trip from the Bowl Championship Series' Fiesta Bowl. The Subcommittee meets with Fiesta officials this week to determine whether the Bowl will retain its NCAA license amid a widely reported scandal. The golf trip, known as the "Fiesta Frolic," was the subject of considerable scrutiny in a 283-page report released last month that detailed some of the Bowl's questionable activities financed with its charitable funds.

The Subcommittee is charged with monitoring bowl organizations' activities and certifying their compliance with NCAA standards. As the NCAA describes it, "If a bowl were to fail its purposes, its community, its participating institutions or participating student-athletes, the NCAA would be expected to prevent and remedy the situation."
