Former Notre Dame OT Matt Romine -- a four-star recruit in the class of 2007 and the No. 85 player in the ESPNU 150 who played in just 24 games for the Irish over four seasons -- will suit up this fall for hometown Tulsa.
Romine is already on campus and will enroll in a graduate program not available at Notre Dame, making him eligible immediately. "This was something I had in the back of my mind when things were not working out for me at Notre Dame," Romine told Eric Bailey of the Tulsa World. "In the back of my mind, I knew about the rule and graduate school has been a goal of mine. A lot of things fell into place and when Coach (Bill) Blankenship got the head coach's job, it was a no-brainer after that."
Blakenship was Romine's high school coach at powerhouse Union High, but it sounds as if he didn't guarantee Romine -- who started three games for the Irish in the middle of last season -- a starting position. "I'm just trying to help wherever they need me," Romine said.
