The Big XII stabilizes

The Big XII has agreed to a more equitable distribution system for its revenue. It's still not entirely equal, but whatever - Considering over 1.1B dollars just went on the table this isn't peanuts.

What does this mean?

A) Texas isn't leaving. I'd bet my next paltry government paycheck on that. With literally BILLIONS coming in now, they are in a postion to settle the others member down, and they are doing it - "Hey boys, sorry about any misunderstandings, were with you, lets work it out."

B) The Big XII isn't expanding, or at least, not for another 5 to 10 years. No need to. The loss of the Denver market has done nothing to keep the money from coming in.

C) The only question now is how the loss of the Championship game affects the conference. The B1G thought it was severely hurting their on-the-field performance, with the loss of both money and revenue, and that's why they brought in Nebraska. If the Big XII starts to fall behind on the football field, then in a few years they will start talking expansion again.

won't be a lot of motivation to cut any new members in for a share...unless Texas and/or OU aren't invited to the Title game after going unbeaten

I would think the loss of the champ game will cost them some serious dough in terms of possible ticket sales and TV money, even with their new deal. Am I wrong?

It does cost them that money but they no longer have to split the rest of the money 12 ways.

I assume splitting the pie two more ways is more costly than forfeiting 80,000 tickets sold and a national TV audience? If you're not bringing in additional big markets like Denver for TV purposes, I guess that makes sense.

The article is more important in what it doesn't say, rather than what it does. Who gets the remaining amount (24%) how is it split? What about the Longhorn network? What about payment to opposing teams? What is the Big Twelve spit? Doesn't ESPN have the contract on this new network? Don't they own the ESPN magazine, radio and television? Do you or anyone else truely trust DeLoss Dodd?

Ha, that was a nicer way to tell me I am stupid than the way my wife told me this morning...corrected. But I still don't trust him and doubt anyone in that conference will ever forget.

- The remaining 24% is most likely being split up by the Big III - UT, OU, A&M. (Nobody has ever claimed the split is actually fair, just less biased now
- The Longhorn network belongs to UT - It's their baby. I believe OU is trying their own network, and if Kansas can create the Jayhawk network, godspeed; if Iowa State can create the cyclone network, good luck. But the Longhorn network belongs to UT.
- According to this article, the first 76% of the Big XII revenue gets split evenly. After that, the next 24% goes to the Big III, however they decide to do it. (I'm sure there are particulars and these are in some way a rough estimate). But the advantage still clearly falls in UT, OU, and A&M's corners.

- Yes, ESPN owns their magazine, radio, and televison. I don't understand the question.
- I do, because I believe I see Texas' game plan. But if the rest of the Big XII doesn't then that's why you have lawyers and contracts, and that's exactly what the Big XII is belived to have: a firm legally binding committment with stiff penalties. (At least according to certain Big XII AD's)
