and boom goes the dynamite.

The Bowl Championship Series just announced it will strip USC of its 2004 national title, the final ruling in the long strange Reggie Bush investigation. USC remains the AP National Champions, because the AP isn't stupid enough to pretend that there's a guiltless team out there. Congratulations, Oklahoma: you won/didn't lose/somehow never played in that Orange Bowl at all.

Lest you have long term memory loss ...

USC won the 2004 national championship by beating Oklahoma 55-19 in the Orange Bowl to complete a perfect season.

BTW the following statement assuages my wounds...

"The BCS arrangement crowns a national champion, and the BCS games are showcase events for postseason football," BCS Executive Director Bill Hancock said in a statement. "One of the best ways of ensuring that they remain so is for us to foster full compliance with NCAA rules. Accordingly, in keeping with the NCAA's recent action, USC's appearances are being vacated.

"This action reflects the scope of the BCS arrangement and is consistent with the NCAA's approach when it subsequently discovers infractions by institutions whose teams have played in NCAA championship events."

what;s interesting to me is that technically the BCS could tell the NCAA to shove it, but they wouldn't.

and i don't know what you're talking about...that game never happened

BTW does anyone know if the Orange Bowl has requested the return of their crate of oranges?

Wasn't the BSC suppose to give us the definitive champion? It was suppose to eliminate the split poll championship and insure the best two teams in the land played. It seems for the new century, it has been worse in its outcomes than the old system.

Well, it has definitively told us that USC is not the champion.

Definitively?

Obviously not THEIR champion; still the APchampion!

Obviously ponyte is correct -split champions in 2003 (USC/LSU) and 2004 (USC/????).
