Dr. R. Gerald Turner Selected 2011 Grand

The Grand Marshall selection committee for the Rotary Club of Park Cities 4th of July Parade is pleased to announce that, after considering over fifteen nominees, Dr. R. Gerald Turner, the President of Southern Methodist University, was selected to be the 2011 Grand Marshall.

On April 15, 2011, Southern Methodist University celebrated its 100th anniversary. As the president of  SMU since 1995, R. Gerald Turner is leading an era of unprecedented progress as the University moves into its second century, approaching the centennial of its founding in 2011 and of its opening in 2015. Under his leadership, The Second Century Campaign raised $460 million toward a goal of $750 million in additional endowment for student scholarships, academic positions and programs, and the campus experience.

We are honored to have Dr. R. Gerald Turner serve as the 2011 Grand Marshall of the Rotary Club of Park Cities 4th of July Parade.

I believe the Mustang band is invited to the parade and will ride a float.

I can't believe they throw a parade in the Park Cities. Won't it be loud, messy, and possibly fun.

They have held the parade for years, and it draws a pretty good turnout.
SMU used to have players go out and sign autographs — do they still do that?

I think James Mapps was on one of the floats and then disappeared from the team. I say keep the players away. Seems to be some kind of pink slip thing.

Relax. Emmanuel Sanders made an appearance, too (and I don't remember ever hearing about Mapps being there).

Actually, the parade isn't bad. Nice community event with a good turnout.

Great marketing opportunity to people who are a chip shot away from Ford.

Its a great parade--all the tin foil you can decorate your car or bike with, kids in makeup, families in old cars, nothing professional, with a band, public officials and families--tacky and fun! Just what the Fourth should be like.

And if Botox is your thing then Park cities is not your spot - that would be Plano.

The parade is really not for the Botox crowd, young families and grandparents...
