Current Roster: Who Has A Shot At The NFL?

Postby StallionsModelT » Mon Jul 11, 2011 4:29 pm

I submit the following

1. Darius Johnson - late 3rd to 5th rounder
2. Kelvin Beachum - 4th to 7th rounder
3. Taylor Thompson - 5th to 7th rounder
4. Chris Banjo - undrafted FA
5. Kyle Padron - undrafted FA
6. Margus Hunt - no idea. some team will take him b/c of his freakish athletic ability and knack for blocking fg's.
7. Cole Beasley - undrafted FA
8. Zach Line - 6-7 rounder or undrafted FA
9. Ja'Gared Davis - late 2nd to 3rd rounder

Any others?
Back off Warchild seriously.

Marcus if he stays healthy and has a great year is a first day guy.

I think you mean second day (rounds 2-3), the first day is just round 1.

I think you guys are underrating Taylor Thompson. When healthy, he's practically unstoppable. I'd say 3rd rounder for him

All about the big senior season. If he notches double digit sacks, with teams like A&M, TCU, UCF on the schedule, his draft stock should shoot up there. He's a physical freak.

Darius Johnson will be discounted in the NFL because of height and lack of breakaway speed. He can be a great college player though

Not a bad list, I'd include Josh LeRibeus as well, and although a little undersized, if Taylor Reed has 2 more seasons like the one he just had, he's got a shot at being a 4-3 LB in the league. I'm a huge Taylor Thompson fan, I think he'd make a great 3-4 DE. Line gets drafted based on production, I can see an Alstott like role for him. Next year i'm hoping for 3 guys drafted

It wouldn't hurt Thompson or Hunt's NFL chances if they actually proved their pass rush potential-so far considering level of competition it has not been overwhelming. What did they have 4 and 6 sacks last year. Both probably have the potential for double digits and they should dominate at CUSA level. Here's last year's NCAA sack leaders-neither are among the Top 20 DEs in Sacks

The 2 kids from UCF teamed up for 17 together. That is the type of production we should see from ours, or better. Throw in J'Gared and we should have some good numbers if we play to potential.

Yeah they changed it my bad 2 too 3....
Marcus is rated# 10 in his class for DE. JJ always helps all these kids a notch higher. AR doesn't get a sniff without him

True Stallion, but I think Taylor is just a great fit as a 3-4 DE. 3-4 Linemen are there to occupy blockers so the linebackers can get to the ball. There might be DE's with gaudier numbers, but more and more teams are going to a 3-4 defense these days, and 3-4 DE's are at a premium. Look at current Cowboy Jason Hatcher, he had only 33 tackles and 5 sacks his junior year at Grambling. Now look up Taylor's stats...they are nearly identical. Jason Hatcher was a 3rd round pick. I don't think Taylor will go that high but I think he'll be playing on Sundays. Some 3-4 team will take a chance on him later in the draft.

What is really cool about this, when is the last time we are talking about 6-7 kids on the roster that could play in the NFL. Great tribute to JJ and staff, agreed, JJ presence in NFL networking pays huge dividends, no turnover in staff (except 2) helps kids in developing. Great staff, keep it going, beat Aggie !!
