SMU linebacker Taylor Reed faced a daunting task when chosen to replace graduating senior Chase Kennemer, the Ponies' leading tackler in 2009. All Reed did was lead the team in tackles, and finish among the leading tacklers in the entire nation in his first season as a starter. Reed visited with PonyFans.com to discuss his breakout 2010 season and what he expects from the Ponies' defense in 2011.

Enjoy!

Terrific story. I knew he was productive, but I had no idea he ranked that highly nationally. I like Mason's idea that Reed will have an even bigger season this year!

Ponyfans should sell these stories to the DMN, it's the quality coverage they should be providing for the hometown team. Glad I can get here though.

gimme a break. there's no way DMN would even think about running stories like these.

quality is too good and they are far too accurate for DMN. :P

To say that the stories we have gotten from you all spring and summer have been above and beyond anything else out there would be an understatement ... and now that the DMN has decided to charge money to read its coverage of everything except SMU, this site is not only by far the best coverage, but also the only free coverage. Thank you for what you guys do.

That's some high praise from Coach Mason. Wouldn't be surprising at all to see Taylor Reed work his way into the fray for awards if he can produce another big year.

Your best story in a while, and on this site, that's saying a lot.

This is a phenomenal story! This is exactly how you get the brand of SMU Football back, start covering the big people in the program; WE NEED A FACE!

When was the last time there was this much hype going into a season? Reed can be an all-american if he puts up numbers like he did last year no doubt about it. This defense is also the key to a successful season for the Mustangs. Given the offense needs to perform well, and maintain a positive turnover ratio, but if the defense lapses like it did at points last season, then we could be looking at another barely above .500 season. This team is good enough to be winning often and consistently! If the defense is top 25 nationally, don't be surprised if SMU makes its way into the top 25 by the middle of the season. Maybe even a double digit win season. THEY ARE THAT GOOD!
