Is Orsini interviewing for Tennessee AD job?

Someone from VolsQuest.com reported on Nashville sports radio this morning that the SMU AD was now in the consideration set after Radakovich (GA Tech) was pulled from consideration now that the GA Tech athletic department violations have come out.
The guy reported that the others in the set are un-named as they hold prominent AD jobs elsewhere and would only be known if an offer is made to them. Said that TN is intent on hiring some one with AD experience.
The Tennessee Athletics Department is a total mess - but it is an SEC job - and that has to have some appeal.

I traded notes with a friend who follows Tennessee. He said that they really like his fundraising efforts but he is a little weak on the big time sports.
But he is considered a contender for the job.
Apparently, the Kansas St. AD is also a contender for the job.
If Orsini moves on, good for him. He's left the athletic program better than where he found it. But he's also made this job more attractive for his successor.

Still haven't had him return my call for the lunch meeting he setup four years ago.

We could do a lot worse than Orsini, but he does leave some areas wanting, including marketing, increasing exposure for the program...and public speaking.
I wouldn't mind if he stays, but I also feel some new blood and perspectives wouldn't be the end of the world. Just no more Copelands.

I used to bust peoples chops regarding public speaking until I was thrust amongst 100 of my peers to do the same. I was scared to death the first few times. He's had a lot of practice ....

All things considered, he's done one hell of a job here. He absolutely should be considered for bigger programs.
Hope like hell he stays.

If they think he is weak on the big time sports, I wonder what they think about the fact he totally ignores the non-big time sports.

No offense to your friend, but he's wrong.
Nobody outside of SMU knows of our new basketball facility, but they sure as hell know of our football and maybe even basketball coach.

WELL your email must just be a stupid complaint or extremely poorly written. I have written him on the topic of Phil Bennet, Jimmy Tubbs, AND Matt Doherty. He has responded every single time. Not only does he respond, but he is very candid. Next time add some substance and appreciation for the job he has done for us.
