Where are all those people saying Auburn did not do anything wrong now.

No I think everybody smells that Auburn is guilty as hell-just like a lot of SEC schools but that neither the NCAA or the media had tied the facts down before the Bowl Game AGAINST AUBURN. I usually don't like to jump to conclusion when the NCAA has a burden to meet to establish its case, but I thought they probably had enough evidence against Newton(not Auburn) to suspend him from NC due to his father demand for $80,000 from Ole Miss. At that time I thought there was enough evidence that Newton via his father's demand had violated NCAA rules and should be suspended. There was only an inference that Auburn must have outbid other teams based on Newton's father demanding $80,000 from Ole Miss. That's not and wasn't enough to punish Auburn at that time but that investigation should continue-which apparently it has. The other day I posted an article about SEC meeting where Gene Chizak asked why Auburn files wasn't cleared. The NCAA representative responded because the NCAA hadn't closed the investigation

For those who don't know, Paul Finebaum is on the College Football satellite radio network. I've heard it a couple of times. Good show. But I believe he is a pretty big Alabama fan. News is news, so I'm not putting him in the crosshairs of "Well, this is typical of Alabama and it's smear campaign.''

Reads to me that there's going to be a lot of time needed to connect everything. They're going to have to really work to find the money trail.

Right now NCAA's priority appears to be Ohio State with Oregon and Auburn investigations taking the back seat. War Eagle.

If this is part of an Alabama smear campaign, then the SEC is headed down the SWC road that we traveled so long ago. Rat out your conference partner, get them on probation, get an advantage. Retaliatory rat outs (or should I say rataliatory), follow. Then suddenly a bunch of schools are on probation and sooner or later the book on one of the schools is bad enough to merit the death penalty and an example is made. Same sort of hubris, same sort of competitiveness, same sort of environment. We've seen this movie before.

We haven't seen this movie in the the current landscape of the BCS. You could smear your neighbors more back in the days where conference affiliations detrmined bowl games, and there was no "national championship" game. The NCAA enforcement has always been pretty lax when it come to major programs. basicaly they have to be dragged kicking and screaming and have such blatant violations to do anything about it. What sucks about the system is it incentivises cheating. Do you think any Auburn fan will care if they have to vaccate the natonal title 4 years from now? Do you thik Orgegon is hurt in any real way losing a pac 10 championship 5 year from now. The people with a gripe are the teams that didn't cheat but didn't play for the National championship like TCU, Wisconsin, Alabama ect.
If you want to make sure schools stamp out cheating require the university to pay all bowl money and other revenue they recieved from the team that cheated for the period of cheating into either a general national scolorship fund or something similar. If they can't pay the 10's of millions this would be make them either A) cancel football for 2 years, or B) opperate their football team having the NCAA collect every penny the program makes on ticket and mercendise liscensing. untill one of these is done the school is banned from all NCAA competitions
If a university was suddenly faced with 10's of millions of added costs, Alumni and current students angrier than anything they have ever seen, they would make damn sure nothing like this ever happend or could even happen again.

Way too rational. It will never happen.

I don't beleive a word of it. Since when are seasoned sugar daddies stupid enough to get caught by the Keystone cops of the NCAA?

It's never the boosters that get caught, it's some player or in this case a father. If you have enough money to spend significant amounts on your college team you are smart enuogh to avoid the NCAA these kids and their family are a different story however.

Pony Law is right. The only thing the BCS schools will respond to is (1) death penalty, or (2) a "fine" of millions of dollars.
