Not too interesting but we did get a mention. Makes me wish I was a recruit in the 80s. Too bad I was watching He-Man, GI-Joe, and playing in a sand box.

"The Daily: There’s a hostess at Auburn who was paid $12,800 last year for assisting in the recruitment of football players. Granted, she wasn’t on scholarship, but in the free market, if she’s worth $12,800, what are these players worth? And is the corruption that is rampant in college football more a product of players realizing their worth than their needs?"

"Davis: The hostesses at SMU in the '80s were worth well more than that."

To fix college football would require change. And there is something reassuring about the current system. We know, and don't have to worry that it could get worse, that there is a two tiered system for investigations and punishment. Yes it isn't right and yes it punishes those that are least able to withstand the onslaught of big money programs but at least it isn't he unknown of potentially worse. A minor tweak here and there is all that is needed. Allow athletes a minimum alternate gift. This would allow kids to receive goodies at major programs without penalizing them (or the school). And it would force the really major cheaters to face the music. And make the rules so complex that actually catching and enforcing a Minimum alternate gift impossible.
