Competition for Aldrick Robinson?

The Redskins re-signed veteran wide receiver Santana Moss and inexplicably added Donte Stallworth ... who sat out the 2009 season when he was suspended after pleading guilty to felony DUI manslaughter. He returned to the NFL in 2010 with the Baltimore Ravens and caught ... two passes in eight games.

The desire to have veteran leadership is one thing, but Mike Shanahan seems to have a habit of signing guys who used to be good years ago just because they're fast (see his genius decision to ink the older-than-dirt Joey Galloway last year). Moss can still play and had to be brought back, but Stallworth? They need help at the receiver position — Malcolm Kelly is useless, as are many of the other re-treads they have rolled in there over the last year — and they drafted three receivers for a reason. It would be a shame if he takes a roster spot from Robinson (or any other young wideout who might help the Redskins when they return to the ranks of competitive teams).

The redskins also just traded for WR Jabar Gaffney. Not really sure what is going on there

My guess is they are saying we don't really have anyone on this roster other than moss who is a lock to make the team because at least 3 other people will make this roster at this position (maybe 4) we should bring in a lot of vte guys to see if they have anything in the tank to teach and compete with these younge kids, looking at the list i feel good about AR's chances of making the roster

I think my head just exploded.

What's going on here is that Shanahan is hitting his trifecta of dreams: (1) making the Redskins older, (2) making the Redskins worse and (3) making the Broncos better. I'm sure he has calls in now to other fossils who never quite became what they were supposed to, like Willie Gault and Renaldo Nehimiah.

But hey, at least Shanahan is helping the economy by giving jobs to senior citizens.

Now add Brandon Stokley.

Does Shanahan like ANY of the WRs he drafted? If not, then he's as qualified to draft players as he is to trade for quarterbacks.

Not surprised.
Happy for AR that he is getting a shot in the NFL, but the Redskins are just horribly mismanaged. Hope he can survive.

A return to the days of George Allen, he loved the old vets. At least he won.

The difference is that George Allen acquired geezers WHO COULD PLAY.

You think? Shanahan hasn't done anything since he gave the ball to John Elway and let Ol' Horseteeth give him a couple of Super Bowl trophies. Shanahan is incompetent.

That was why I stated "At least he won."

Beg to differ. Elway lost three super bowls prior to Shanahan arriving in Denver. It was Shanahan who brought in Romanowksi, McCaffrey, and helped Terrell Davis become back to back Super Bowl Champs.

The Chump in all of this was Dan Reeves, who'se incompetency was always hidden by Elway's talent all of those years.

The fact is that last year the wideouts for the Redskins, were awful. Add in that their offensive line was not good either. Thus, Shanahan and Bruce Allen faced with a short turn around and lots of holes at wideout are stockpiling. Whoever makes the team will have to earn a place which is good. The last few wide outs that the Redskins drafted acted like they just needed to put on a uniform and they'd be stars. They also got rid of that cancer Albert Haynesworth and the over the hill Donovan McNabb. After 5 years of Danny Snyder's fantasy football team, its refreshing to see the change. Add in that wideouts get hurt more than other positions and depth is not a bad thing.

Down two: Skins just cut Roydell Williams and Brandon Stokley apparently doesn't like competition — after seeing all the receivers Washington is acquiring, he decided not to sign, after all.

Couldn't disagree more. Under Reeves, Elway was a one-man offense. Put guys like Romanowski, McCaffrey and Davis on that team and Reeves would have more rings than Shanahan could dream of.

Don't forget that they had zero legitimate running backs last year to make defenses honest and allow McNabb another milisecond of time to throw.
