The big East does need to expand in football but the basketball mess might be a barrier.

Ivan's comment that one of the legacy football schools, e.g. Syracuse, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, etc., need to be part of the Big East revival is a good point. Power and tradition.

So, does TCU's arrival in 2012 help achieve that, or should they improve national and traditional image/strength with other additions beyond their 9 football playing members? Getting more competitive vs. other conferences appears to be important as they pursue a new TV FB contract. If they go beyond 9 schools, who can actually impact Big East value? UCF? East Carolina? Memphis? Houston? Mustangs? Do they stay 'pat' for a while? Can't say any can do that, except for a resurgent SMU in the Top 20. Do the Horned Frogs need companionship in Texas and allow other Big East schools to travel to this large market every year vs. every other year? Do they need another Florida school?

TCU invite (and their 2 BCS game appearances) was all about keeping that BCS status. My guess all along has been Nova to step up from FCS, Navy to get a football only invite and UCF to round the league up to 12 football and 18 all sports members.
Only way I see that changing is if one of the other power conferences makes an expansion move and all Hades breaks loose

From Pittsburg Tribune-Review:

Further reports on the value of Big East FB expansion, including a NYC Championship game in December, TV deals and membership with a larger national footprint. Note school membership in Dallas. A freudian slip?

this is what the BE commish said exactly...

"If you would have asked me that question 10 years ago, I would probably have laughed and said, 'That would never happen,' " he said. "But if there is a conference that is called the Big Ten that has 12 schools, what's wrong with the Big East having a school in Dallas, Texas?

"It's a brave new world, and we're willing to push it."

So I had a though of what would be fun, Let's have a new conference of TCU SMU UT UTEP HUSTON, BAYLOR, TECH, A&M d-1 plus Kansas and KSU, and OU and OSU, (we could include Iowa state &Mizzouri if we want to be bigger as well as Tulsa, and rice and UNT if they decide they care about sports) and let MizzU and ISU find homes in the Big 10.
The RedRiver Conference ( as I'm calling It) would still comand a good TV deal with the complete texas market represented and would be really solid in Fottball, Basketball, and baseball. this is the conference I'd like to see

Big East Commissioner eyes brave new world"

As for Big XII country (formerly known as Big 8 and Southwest Conferneces), Longhorns hubris could drive the Aggies and Sooners away. Winner: SEC.

With a scenario where UT goes independent, OK State and Texas Tech will need to look for Option B, Big XII might keep them by adding Air Force, Colorado State and New Mexico giving you nine member schools (MO, KU, KSU, ISU, TTU, Baylor and OSU along with new members AFA, CSU and NM.) OK, but not ideal. Big (Small) XII could then determine if 12 is the right number and add UH, Rice and SMU.

I just think it's interesting we got a psuedo-mention by the Big East commissioner.
Nothing more, nothing less. But interesting.

Call me an idiot, but I rate that higher than a pseudo-mention.

I think he got confused and thought TCU was in Dallas, not Ft. Worth
