Another Chron Article Pimping UH

Imagine if the Dallas daily ever published an article this complimentary of SMU? For the DMN's own selfish reason, you'd think they'd want a Big 12 program in Dallas so they can worship their favorite teams in person.

I think this article is a pure load of BS, but no matter how far fetched, when the decision makers constantly read this it starts to bore in their head. It'd be nice if we had the same support.

The Mustang nation needs to rise up and be heard unless it is an indifferent bunch and most don't care. Support SMU now and the invites will come. You have to make yourself attractive or at least more atractive than the others or you are not gonna get invited to the dance. I wonder how the BYU and BEVO networks will divide up the money? BYU should not be in the BIG 12. It is MWC or PAC 10 material.

The quieter SMU stays, the better.

meanwhile in the DMN Colishaw refers to TCU and UH, but no mention of SMU whatsoever.

Someone slipped me a Mitch Pill!!!!

I smirk every time I hear all of this conference talk and where SMU football will land in it. If you’re concerned and want to be proactive, show up to games, and invite all of your friends, introduce them to the Blvd. get them involved. That grass roots project is the way it will happen with a winning record. If you can’t give the most important thing to do is show up buy a ticket and makes some noise. You can’t force people to like football or any other sport.

IMO THIS problem stems from the very people that call this school their own. How many have graduated in the last 20 years, multiplied by their friends and family. No disrespect to the hard core 1500 I’m just saying.
Many would argue that there was nothing worth watching for the last 20 years. But that’s not loyalty, and no longer true.
If there was 35,000 with a voice and a pocket book this would have been solved 18 years ago. But only 1500 cared.

Take a look at your traveling fans group. Pretty sad when half of them didn’t even attend SMU ( or is it?). So stop with the what will happen, where will we go, and try and get more than 16,500 people in the stands. That is the biggest single most negative that faces this program, fans in seats. And folks there is something worth watching now.

I wear the gear, I take the heat, and I bring my neighbors or anyone else that will listen. Mustang Up!

These coaches, all of the players will come and go. But those that love football will still be standing. X players that still consider this school their own, and who continue to support this program after their gone are some of the greatest fans of all. When you’re done playing for SMU will your father still come to the games?

They had some Classic games. UH won 4 SWC Championship and had about 8 Eight plus win seasons in an era of 11 game seasons. UH just got bad at the wrong time. Competitively they were probably the best candidate based on prior 20 years-of course they suffered from other negatives

CoxMustangFan wrote:Yes, great post OTP. Unfortunately, my immediate connection to SMU is through the MBA program and the apathy that the average MBA has towards SMU is AMAZING (there are notable exceptions, of course)! Sadly (as it relates to this topic), the MBA programs at SMU may be the real strength of SMU and many MBA's walk off campus not giving a rat's [deleted] about the school. It's a MAJOR MAJOR hole in the SMU fan support bucket. I'm 100% supportive of Cox leadership, but I've come to realize the best thing I can do to help SMU is to get far more MBA's caring about SMU, which is where I fight most of my battles.

SMU needs 25,000 more of you. Until then will just have a little fun.

So did we. We should have been where Miami is.

Houston was good even before they joined the SWC.

Before the SWC they had that Classic Game when they shocked UT 20-20 which paved the way for their entrance into SWC. Houston had a very solid Top 25-30 Football program when Bill Yeoman was there- 4 SWC Championships in the first 8 years they were member. Then they had that short run with Pardee and loser John Jinkens where they were ranked a few years

I'll save the rant for a future happy hour, but picking up the MBA crowd is the 5 pound perfect red apple at the bottom of the tree.

Some unique challenges to that, also best discussed elsewhere

Maybe Jones could speak to the MBA students like he does to undergrad.
