There are many reports saying that this is still a done deal, only they have to dance a little and figure some additional issues out first. Apparently it's the legal issue with the Big XII, and the need to know who the 14th school is. A&M will receive assurances from the SEC that if they leave there is a spot waiting for them, and then get out. But who becomes the other one? If every option from the ACC is closed, and OU and Mizzou aren't interested, this becomes dicey.
I am going to say this, and I don't care what anybody thinks.
If (and I mean if) this is the case PRESIDENT TURNER AND STEVER ORSINI HAD BETTER REALIZE THE OPPORTUNITY THAT IS OUT THERE AND BE ON THE PHONE NOW.
You want a 14th school?
You want to be in Texas?
You want some academic help outside of Vandy?
You want to avoid breaking up a conference?
We fit all those needs. We are the Vandy of the West and will anchor the SEC in Texas. We can have a stadium larger than Vandy in one year, maybe two, if need be. (Just close off the endzone).
Get on the phones and GO FOR IT, RESULTS BE DAMNED. If we get turned down, so be it,but just GO FOR IT.
PRESIDENT TURNER, ASSURE YOUR PLACE IN SMU'S HISTORY AND GET SMU INTO THE SEC

Zero percent chance of SMU in the SEC. No need for them to solidify anymore in TX and we certainly don't deliver anything of value to them.
Also, we'd be lucky to win 3 games a year in that conference.

BTW, if Mizzou isn't interested then SEC will immediately look to Clemson, Florida State, and maybe NC State.
Also we don't want to be associated with that Dirty [deleted] conference considering our past.

I DON'T GIVE A [deleted]. THIS ISN'T LIFE OR DEATH, GO FOR IT.
If we don't get it, nobody blames him. But we have nothing to lose by him taking a chance.

Dear Lord.
No, this will NEVER happen. Not a chance in hell.
We averaged 21k a game last year and our fanbase doesn't travel for [deleted] compared to Alabama, Tennessee, LSU, etc. We wouldn't add ANYTHING in terms of a TV market that A&M doesn't already bring. And I'm sure the SEC schools would love another 30-40k stadium to play in every other year (sarcasm)
It makes zero sense from the SEC's standpoint. Zero.

OU can't go because of OSU. I would have to think that Mizzou would jump at the offer, though. They missed out on the Big Ten train last time around and the current Big 12 is anything but stable.

I'm sure Orsini-Turner know all they'd get on the other end of the phone is maniacal laughter.
Focus now should be on monitoring the Bevo 12-3 and whether or not they intend to expand to 10 or 12. If it's 10 we have about a .01 percent chance. If it's 12 we have maybe a 25 percent chance. If it's 14 or 16 it would be extremely disappointing if we were not involved.

Read the post. There are rumors that UF is blocking FSU, USC blocking CU, etc. NC State ain't leaving for the SEC.
YOU BET YOUR [deleted] we want to be associated with them. What, we don't want to be associated with other schools from the state of Texas who were dirty when we were? Didn't you see Pony Excess???

I think the idea is to add equal numbers of teams from East and West

UCF, Memphis, Louisville, West Virginia, and about 25 other teams would be considered before the SEC even thought about us an option.

Exactly. They don't want to split up Auburn and Alabama if it can be avoided. They would have to if they added two west teams.

Well in this bizaro world scenario you could move someone else West even if it didn't make sense on a map.

The small group of us, that actually go to all of these road games can testify, our fan support is almost nonexistent.
