No invite from the SEC after all.

I hope that feeling of inadequacy lingers for a few weeks.

A&M was going to vote on leaving the Big 12 and pursuing membership in the SEC in their Board of Regents meeting on August 22nd. Because things started to happen so fast and so public, they scheduled a special meeting for Monday August 15th. When that meeting was called, the SEC powers that be scheduled an emergency meeting to make the statement they made today in order to avoid any legal action against them for pursuing a member of the Big 12.

Now I do not know if any legal action had any basis but it was probably a very good move on their part.

Texas A&M will meet tomorrow and vote to give their President full power to pursue options available in the best interest of the University. The A&M president will then contact the SEC commissioner and begin to work the deal.

It will most likely happen and it will most likely happen on the schedule that was originally intended prior to all of the leaks and national speculation.

Also, the SEC had let it be known that they did not want to announce A&M until after they had the other team in place so it could all be done at one time. With all that has happened now, it may not be the case, but it is very possible that the A&M deal will be done and not announced for some time until another school is chosen.

Earlier posts report that this is only a delay from a few days to three weeks. Concensus is that it is still likely to happen.

I frankly would not take joy in the Aggies not getting an invitation, since UT is the one who helped create the dilemma and drove A&M to consider alternatives. And, if Aggies do go, the resulting actions by Big12 and/or others may open options for SMU. So, no joy if the SEC invitation doesn't happen for the Aggies.

I agree this is far from over and believe more than ever this is going to happen. Have to work through the legal issues (after all, this is primarily about TV contracts) and I don't see the SEC extending any offers until they have at least 2 schools to add.
