Dan Branch and Steve-O had lunch yesterday.
FYI
I guess what I mean is that Steve-O is clearly taking this seriously and being proactive so this "wandering eye" stuff is bunk now in my opinion.

I was hoping it was Dan Beebe. Not much Branch can do to help us other than wish us good luck and throw a bone or two our way in the press.

It's good to have every possible connection throwing their weight around for SMU.
Branch is the chair of the higher ed committee and a well respect pol, with the potential to move to higher office if spots start opening up.
I want him on our side, especially since the UH alums in the lege are making noise for cougar high.

I not quite up to speed on who Dan Branch is. Could someone tell me who he is?

I too was hoping that DB = Dan Beebe and not Branch. Either way though, this is still reassuring that Orsini is doing what he should be "behind the scenes" to get our name out there.

correct, his office here in Dallas is by Maple and Oak Lawn
he chairs the education committee in the Texas State Legislature, as I understand it, and therefore has something to say about universities exiting and/or entering the Big 12. what thet might be? idk but he is someone that I have heard from multiple people that we need to be speaking w/ and have on our side moving forward...otherwise i doubt orsini would have just had lunch w/ him.

If you've got to eat lunch, might as well eat it with somebody that can help you.

Branch is an SMU law alum and his committee oversees the state universities. If you remember Baylor was included in the Big 12 because the Governor, Ann Richards, was a Baylor alum. Don't discount the influence a politician can have on what state universities do.
