With A&M all but gone, Big 12 faces uncertainty. The newspaper outlines Big XII options and future. Will it impode or reemerge?

Its time to come to the realization that we are not in the mix at all for the Big 12. I've actually got someone that is about as "in the know" at SMU as one can be and I got a chance to ask him about this topic a couple of days ago. He told me that SMU put feelers out but was told that they are WAY down the list (like behind UTEP). So forget the Big 12.

since we don't recruit Texas anyway hopefully this means we finally realize we should be in the PAC

I'm not so sure we should be clammoring to join a conference on the ropes anyway just to be in the BCS picture. When aTm leaves, OU & OSU realizes just how crappy the deal is with LHN and they start looking for suitors, UT goes independent and the whole thing implodes in two years anyway and we get to have this lovely conversation all over again. Let them have coog high and let's talk to the Pac 12 (heck, AK's getting all of their recruits anyway!). I am not convinced that the Big XII is the way to the grown-ups table in this situation.

PAC 12 wouldn't touch us with a ten foot cattle prod. Best case, and IMO, most likely scenario would be the following revised version of C-USA in which Baylor and Iowa State are added to the conference.

The article mentions SMU without mentioning us.
TCU is the most football-ready addition in a competitive sense, but would add little else to the conference because the Big 12 is king in the Dallas-Fort Worth TV market.

Behind UTEP. Oh well. But if win big this year hopefully we can move up the ladder a little bit.

I agree the PAC would be a good place for us, but I don't really see that happening for a number of reasons.
Roughly 72% of the players this staff has signed in the last three years were from Texas. You can argue that the staff doesn't offer the right recruits if you question the quality of those signings. You can also point to the fact that the majority of our commitments this year are from outside of Texas. Those would be fair arguments. To make a blanket statement that "we"don't recruit Texas is just tired and blatantly false.
And I put we in quotes because since none of us are on the staff "we" don't recruit a damn thing.

If the Big 12 holds together I hope we can raid Louisville and Cincy from the BE. Add BYU and we are at 12. This opens up theoretically 5 spots in the BE if they desire to get to 12 teams. If WVU goes either SEC or ACC it opens up another. The BE getting raided but surviving it is probably the most likely BCS probability for SMU.
So if the ACC/SEC took 1 and the Big 12 took 2... that leaves 6 teams of Syracuse or WVU, UConn, Rutgers, Pitt, USF, TCU
Add SMU, UH, UCF, ECU, Villanova, and Memphis would be a good outcome for you guys if they shot for 12.
Sic'Em and please beat A&M opening day.
