Two kickers among walk-ons

The rest of the walk-ons (in addition to the "preferred" walk-ons who were invited to take part in preseason camp) arrived Monday, two of whom are kickers and/or punters.

One is Chase Hoover, a Plano West graduate who was going to walk on at Blinn JC before coming to SMU. The other is Brad Namdar, another Plano West alum who walked on at Texas Tech in 2007 and was on the Red Raiders' roster for a year before transferring the following year to SMU.

"I transferred to play soccer for (former SMU coach) Schellas Hyndman," Namdar said, "but then he left (to become the head coach for FC Dallas), so soccer kind of went out the window."

Namdar started coaching soccer and the kickers at St. Mark's School of Texas before deciding to give kicking another try this fall at SMU.

Chase Hoover's uncle works down the hall from me, and is a big Aggie fan.

I am hopeing that Chase comes in and kicks the game winning field goal as time runs off the clock.

Come to think of it Pony Pride...how many other walk-ons are there, and who are they? sizes, credentials, preferreds vs. just plain old walk-ons, etc?

Brad Namdar seems to be a very reliable kicker/kid. I saw he was the most accurate high school kicker in the country, went to Texas Tech, than trans. to SMU a couple of years ago. He doesn't seem to be the biggest kicker out there, it says in his Tech bio hes 5'8 155, though, there is a lot of info regarding him online.

Headline suggestion:

Namdar: Rad Man ?

That would be the first palindromic headline ever on PonyFans.

That could be the case. Apparently, Namdar, at yesterdays practice put on a show in kickoff team with surprise onsides, and pouch kicks. He was able to kick the ball deep as well. Sounds like he will be a specialty kicker. Could become useful.

SSSSSHHHHHH...from Kate at DMN today:

Of note on the initial depth chart released Monday: walk-on kicker Chase Hover is slated to handle kickoffs and place kicking. Matt Stone will punt. Kenneth Acker has won the open starting job at right cornerback and Victor Jones at outside linebacker. Torlan Pittman is back at nose as expected after missing last year dealing with a legal issue.
