Playing a BCS conference team and a top 10 team at that is always a big game. But does the recent A&M/SMU buzz make it a bigger game?
A&M in the media everyday for possibly leaving the big 12. SMU publically announcing their interest in the big 12. Both teams playing each other to open the season as the lone game on Sunday of labor day weekend. Win or lose, we will get a LOT of national exposure. I don't want to put any additional pressure on the boys... But this game could have a serious impact on our program.
If we were to pull off an upset...it would be a hell of a statement... the press would a field day. Even putting a scare in the Aggies would silence some critics.

I think it's the biggest game post-DP. Sunday game, national TV, all SEC fans will be watching, all Big XII fans will be watching (rooting for us) and the general college football fan will be watching. It will definitely be the most watched SMU game post-DP. We have the stage.....

I think this might have been a contributing factor in ESPN giving SMU'S expression of interest so much attention. They have a ready made storyline now. A&M trying to prove all season that they belong in the SEC, SMU trying to prove they belong in the Big 12 by beating the team they want to replace.

Except that the game will be on Fox Sports, not ESPN.
