If this is pure desperation, it is being done with considerable investment.

The website domain name is registered to Chris Anderson of Dallas, TX. Doesn't seem to be affiliated with the university.

I know it's cheap to buy a domain name, right...but why do it unless there's some other reason. I mean, what's the point...oh look we have a website! Look how many people are down with SMU to the Big 12! By itself, I can't figure out why anyone would bother.
