Texas A&M and SMU have different conference goals
By KRISTIE RIEKEN, AP Sports Writer – 2 hours ago
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Texas A&M can't wait to get out of the Big 12 Conference. SMU would like nothing more than to join the league.
The first weekend of the college football season presents a number of intriguing matchups, but perhaps none is odder than No. 8 Texas A&M hosting the Mustangs on Sunday. The usual questions around a team's first game have been overshadowed by a second straight year of conference realignment -- with a twist.

They are just blanketing the airwaves...genius at work. Someone in a major PR Firm in Dallas has worked this to perfection and with precision. Now IF....the SMU Football team were to pull off the upset in front of a National TV audience with every football pundit watching?...........hmmmmmmm

This article would read to perfection with an SMU over A&M win this Saturday. Imagine that?

Steve-O:
"Can you imagine if this great Southwest region didn't have a top-tier athletic conference? Meaning, look at what's happening to our current conference. One went West, one's gone to the Midwest and one may go to the Southeast. You know what? This region deserves a great athletics conference and we would add that stability."

Stability is a smart sell. Glad we are pushing that.

I think Steve o co-opted that from an article out of Oklahoma why OU might not be concerned about letting in smaller schools.

An SMU win would be so absolutely popular with the other Big 12 remaining teams, that they just might overlook our poor attendance record when they consider our bid to become a league member. On the other hand, a one-sided loss like 2005 would kill hopes for SMU to upgrade its membership into a BCS conference. Boy, Oh Boy, is there ever a lot riding on this game. Sure hope JJ knows how to handle this kind of pressure on his team. :?
