IF SMU were to beat TAMU...would THIS be the biggest

Postby ponyscott » Tue Aug 30, 2011 7:50 pm

win in SMU Football's history? ( we have to ask) Or would we have to consider the 20-6 win against The #2 Ranked University of Texas on October 25, 1980 in Austin, Texas in front of 74,000 fans and a National CBS Network audience, the biggest?

Not the biggest ever, but certainly the biggest since the death penalty. With so much noise surrounding this game it will be interesting to see how we come out and play. I have never gone into a game against a team like Texas A&M with as much confidence as I do now. I think we are going to shock a lot of people on Sunday.

Definitely wont be as big as the win over Texas. That one symbolized the jump from a regional team to a national championship contender. A win over A&M will get us national exposure, sure, but we still probably would not be considered a national contender due to our conference limitations. A win over them (and perhaps also TCU??) would propel us to the forefront of conference shuffling discourse. In sum, a win over A&M probably wont be the biggest one in our history, but it might be the most meaningful in a quarter of a century.

The win over TCU win '35 would be one of if not the biggest. The 51' win over ND in South Bend is pretty big. 1980 win over UT is big but not sure as big and the others. One note, all those big wins were on the rode. A win against A&M would be legendary for SMU.

If the win opens up the necessary eyes to get us back in an AQ, then I say yes it will be the biggest.

The last time I was in CS for a game was the Sword Pulling Cadet that got his clock cleaned by an SMU cheerleader.
The Double Decker bus and SMU faithful will yell and scream for V.I.C.T.O.R.Y.

I still have a weird feeling about this showdown down south....I may be a homer, but this could be a great BIG upset! And what better way to celebrate it than with some other SMU crazies in a Double Decker Rock Star Bus that Dave Mathews travels in?....and we now have the famous vodka/lemonade that made the Blvd famous.
Who else is with us?...C'mon....
