Sadly, I think this is accurate.
Beebe, and more importantly, Texas, want nothing to do with us or Houston. Even if that means adding an absolutely horrid football program like Memphis. I go back to a conversation I had with someone who was about as "in the know" at SMU as anyone I know and he said we are an absolute non-factor in Big 12 realignment. As in below UTEP on the list of teams they are looking at for expansion.
But the media blitz is fun. It was good to dream for a few hours

Recruiting BYU or Air Force makes sense. Louisville maybe. Memphis never.

We've already heard UND, BYU, Arkansas, AFA, Louisville, Pitt, Houston (Remember two weeks ago???), now Memphis...every one is a candidate and no one is. I wouldn't get all sour grapes over that statement.

This is all about football. Memphis adds zero for football. Hard to take that report seriously.

True, but's a decent size school and they can beat up on them every year like Kansas.

That wasn't Beebe. You're thinking of David Berst.

That was David Berst who passed out, not Beebe.
It's been posted in another thread but I sure hope calls have been made to the SEC. We very easily solve their "problem" of a 14th team without making political waves, they get to expand into Texas even more for recruiting and get more of a foothold into the TV market. We can always dream.
There was a yahoo sports article today promoting TCU to the SEC for the exact same reasons, why not us?

We would get our nutsacks handed to us every week in the SEC. At least in the Big 12 there is still a chance we would be competitive.

I don't think Chip Brown hates SMU....he's just another of those alums that refuses to get out of the loser mindset that most alums from the 90s/early 2000s have, so they claim allegiance to UT, A&M, whatever.
