Looks like the worst Miami will get doesn't even qualify as a slap on the wrist –- it's a few game suspension for some of its players. No penalties for the institution whatsoever. And nothing to penalize for the other 60+ players who accepted inappropriate gifts in the past. We've given worse punishment to players who don't show up for study hall! http://sports.excite.com/news/08312011/v6584.html

I heard the NCAA chief on the radio yesterday. He said that their investigation had hardly begun and hinted that the death penalty would be possible if the findings were serious enough. Having said that, I doubt that a BCS school will ge the DP unless there are murders. Oh, sorry, Baylor. Best thing Miami has going for it is that UT isn't losing any big recruits to them.

As noted in another post, this is not the full punishment, only an eligibility ruling.
Patience.

dude, they have barely started to investigate this series of incidents, there is MUCH more to come...especially after the claw-backs begin, then there will be irrefutable proof of what Nevin Shapiro alleged.

here's our jabbering from last night: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=54365willing to bet they don't even have to pay the money back before they hit the field. ncaa probably put them on some sort of delayed payment plan. $1/month til it's paid in full, or something ridiculous like that.

the NCAA has absolutely no authority over the claw-backs

Prediction:
The allegations will be true. The courts will make the players pay back the value of the goods and services they received.
The NCAA will accept the pay back of the depreciated value of the goods and services receives as community service and that will fulfill one of the penalties handed down by the NCAA
The NCAA will restrict UM to only 20,000 text messages to recruits from August to Feb for the next 2 recruiting seasons.
UM will vacate 5 winds a year .
No bowl appearances unless they make a BSC bowl or a bowl not involving a CUSA team
Lose of 2 scholarships in women’s rowing
Probation (again)
And FIU will be limited to 12 football scholarships, no official visits and no post season bowls for 5 years.

I think you understimate the significance of making the Hurricanes give up 5 winds.
