Let's talk about the new taunting rule.

Was listening to a sports show discussion on the new rule. Of course it has been said that if a player begins to celebrate prior to crossing the goal line that the TD is negated and a 15 yard penalty assessed. I think that is terrible but it is a new rule this year. But what I then heard has me worried for schools like us. Let us say that Padron throws a 40 yard TD pass to DJ. As DJ is running the last few yards to the goal line, Padron starts celebrating. Maybe does a Tony Romo and jumps up on a lineman. That is no TD and 15 yards from back where the celebration was. Or our OL opens a big hole for Zach and he rambles 20 yards and just before scoring one of the lineman starts clapping and dancing a little. No TD and 15 yards. Obviously it does not have to occur on a scoring play but that is the most severe instance.
No one in the discussion was certain as to defensive celebration penalties, but if they are treated the same, someone better put a leash on J'Gared.
Like the death penalty, you are not going to see these penalties called on Alabama, Texas, OU, or even A&M. I am sure they will slap someone like us to set an example. Hopefully the coaches have stressed this adequately to keep us from losing points in a game.

We should not even dare smile when we score, but eggie could probably
get away with turning flips.

Gotta agree it will be a terrible rule. Seems of late the NCAA is hell bent on screwing up the game. The halo rule was a joke. Selective enforcement without any standardization. The clock changing rules a couple of years ago was a total Charlie Foxtrot. And now this. I can see the Big XII-II-I officials using a rule like this to cover say UT's back if it looks like a minor school like ASU is about to beat them. Completely subjective and not subject to review. The ideal rule to keep the big boys big and the little guy's upsets in check. And it will definitely put officials and not players in charge of the outcome.

Never have been a Monty Python fan. Too high brow for me.

Mrydel, at some point you are gnna have to get over this "poor unfortunate me attitude" and change to "let's do it" attitude. If TCU can do it then surely SMU can do it! Or do you think TCU is better than TCU and has been better for the last 50 years? How did TCU do it? The old-fashioned way. They quit whining and went to work to be the best they could be. Within a decade they are competing at ahigh level and mentioned in conference realignments. Doesn't mean i like TCU because I don't but they are showing the way!

mrydel, if your feelings are hurt by this post, I recommend we have a therapy session at Whole Hog.

My feelings are not hurt nearly as much as they are confused. I mention a new NCAA rule and get lectured on growing up and accepting the TCU model. Which by the way I have long supported. I think I do need Whole Hog.
