given the chance...
http://thescoopblog.dallasnews.com/arch ... -migh.htmlTroy Aikman has a long memory, at least when it comes to Skip Bayless.
Bayless, a former Dallas sports columnist, wrote a book about the Dallas Cowboys that was published in 1996, when Aikman was the team's star quarterback. In the book, Bayless famously speculated -- without providing a shred of evidence -- that Aikman might be gay.

Great ticket skills. No question on why recently divorced Troy boy is recently divorced. Now retired, no need to put up the front?
Irrespective of sexual orientation, great QB.

When Troy was first drafted, the Cowboys put him in an apartment two doors down from My brother in law. He also worked for the Cowboys for 5 years. He says no way Troy is gay. NTIATWWT

The Aikman rumor has been around forever it seems. Jt, retired? Been a while since he has been playing. My brother in law dated a gal who also dated Troy @ ucla. If he is gay, he is doing an excellent job of covering. But who cares, he was an awesome qb.

The rumor was that there was a gay guy in Dallas who got up the guts to ask Troy to go to a party with him. Aikman, who is not a complete homophobe, went along just because he was a decent guy and that was it.

That's awfully progressive of Troy. Someone called him gay ten years ago and he wants to kick his [deleted].

I guess he should just forget the guy started a rumor about him to sell some books and make a dime off his reputation. Especially a guy like Skip Bayless. I am sure you would not have had a problem with that if the same thing happened to you here on ponyfans.

Can't decide what's worse: rehashing a years-old rumor that appears to be false and definitely is irrelevant and nobody's business, or that Troy Aikman and perhaps the biggest idiot in journalism this side of Nancy Grace are taking up PonyFans.com football space.

You are right - I should not have responded; I just could not help it.

If someone could sell books on Ponyfans based on anything about me I'd be impressed. The Aikman quote goes on to have him suggesting Bayless might be gay. Who gives a [deleted] if Troy or anyone is or isn't? Everyone knows Bayless is a hack. Seemed like a weird way to handle a 10 year old grudge.

it clearly cut deeper than people here are giving it credit, how would you feel if someone made hundreds of thousands using a rumor that undermined your credibility as a man in the eyes of most conservative dallasites and especially your coworkers/teammates?
if i never got an apology or retraction that grudge would last for me.

I'd probably hold a grudge too if a dope like Bayless made up a baseless rumor about me to make money for his book. Don't think Troy is out of line here.

Agree to disagree I guess. Aikman's tactic was to suggest Bayless might be gay...the same behavior he had an issue with. Those rumors were going around from Barry Switzer and the UCLA days pre hack reporter. And sorry Conservative Dallas, but didnt Aikman just get a divorce? Isn't that frowned upon by that same crew? Maybe people shouldn't give a damn about the personal lives of pro ball players. If The Triplets were elephant walking in the locker room I could care less.
