June Jones is the right coach for SMUI'm glad we have June Jones as our coach.
He has Improved recruiting. My gosh we have a four star player verbally commited to play next year!! Before June arrived this kid and most three star kids would have laughed at an offer from SMU. People are talking about SMU on the national level. He has convinced SMU to loosen academic requirements, a little, so he can get better athletes. People are giving money to the Mustang Club in record numbers Things are getting better I was hoping we would have been alot more competitive tonight, but when you allow a top ten team to start their first three possessions in SMU's end of the field, well.... A&M has bigger, better, faster athletes than SMU, it would have have taken a perfect game and then some for a victory tonight. With the way the college football landscape is changing I think many believe the window of opportunity to get into a BCS conference is closing, I do. I am also concerned it might already be to late but I hope not. Therefore the added urgency to build a successful and one of the top programs in the country. What I don't understand is all of the knee jerk reactions on this board tonight. Hell yes we are all mad and p-ssed off SMU was stomped tonight and not even competitive. I am starting to believe this program was in alot worst shape than I thought it was before June took over. It seems like we are starting over from the death penalty again. It would also be nice to start the season with a Northwest State at home instead of A&M or Texas Tech on the road. June does some things I don't alwys agree with, but no matter who the Head Coach is he is not going to make everyone happy. But June Jones is the right man for this job. Look forward to seeing everyone on the Boulavard this Saturday. Keep the faith Brothers! Bury the Miners!!! GO MUSTANGS!
Re: June Jones is the right coach for SMUMeyer did things I didn't agree with. Collins did things I didn't agree with. Same for Gregg, Rossley, Caven and Bennett. JJ is no different. But there is a reason they get paid the big bucks and I get to type opinions on a free chat board.
I agree, JJ is the man we need now. Perfect, no. The best, yes.
Re: June Jones is the right coach for SMUAgreed. Except I knew how bad this team was when he took over, and did not think he would have accomplished what he already has in his first 3 years. Like I said in another thread, if we go 7-5 or 8-4 this year, we as SMU fans should be elated! Do you not remember how much we sucked before he got here? The people sitting next to me tonight said this was their first game to come to since the death penalty. He is getting people interested again. There was even a good student turnout which I in my lifetime have never seen at an away game like that. Analysts actually thought we had a chance to knock off a top 10 team ( I however knew better and got flamed for my close prediction)
We will go to a bowl this year (kind of worried about the QB situation) Which is 1000x better than any year pre-JJ. Houston is going to kick our [deleted] though.
Re: June Jones is the right coach for SMUI just hope our performance did not hurt our recruiting. Especially any high caliber commit watching the game.

Re: June Jones is the right coach for SMU
Don't those top guys commit here because they think they can get on the field right away? This should reinforce that belief. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: June Jones is the right coach for SMUI agree. I thought SMU leadership accepted being non-competitive until they went out and got a 'SUPER COACH.' That was a commitment signaling SMU's sincerity toward rebuilding.
Re: June Jones is the right coach for SMU
Oh please. Those kids are smart enough to know the kind of team we faced tonight. Besides, we lost to Army and UTEP last season, and we landed some very good players. Those losses were a hell of a lot worse than this one. This one just stings because it was tonight and we have the biggest knee-jerk reaction crowd on the planet.
Re: June Jones is the right coach for SMU
agree for the most part; I'm not sure I am ready to concede that we can't beat Houston at their place. Let's see how the season unfolds. I just hope most of our fair weather fans haven't written this team off because of last night's performance. That's still a very big part of why we are where we are today
Re: June Jones is the right coach for SMU
I hope it doesn't affect any high caliber recruits that we are going after that are not committed. Last edited by SMU 86 on Mon Sep 05, 2011 10:45 am, edited 1 time in total.

Re: June Jones is the right coach for SMUThis shoudlnt even be in doubt geezz JJ is one of the greatest coachs and to be honest i cant think of another one that could have made us as good as we are considering what he started with. Also keep in mind what happened with that hawaii team he had when he played the bulldogs in a BCS game.We are still lacking the big time recruits. He did well to calm the team down after those picks
Re: June Jones is the right coach for SMUAgree with what most of you have said here, but I want to add one more point: we should be glad that there is a knee-jerk reaction and that people are pissed we lost to a top 10 team. 5 years ago, the reaction would have been "well, what did you expect?" The fact that the team, school and fan base expect great things (maybe even unrealistically great things) from this coach and team is huge, and is a direct result of what June Jones has done. I think this team goes out and beats the snot out of UTEP next week, and I am not sold on the fact that we don't have the talent to run the CUSA table yet. Time will tell, but just to have lofty expectations and demand better is so much farther ahead than where we have been in a LONG time.

GO MUSTANGS!!!!
Re: June Jones is the right coach for SMUActually, you let your top recruits think that not only can they Get on the field sooner, and that they are one of the keys to us beating teams like that in the future. Jones has changed the culture here, and he has bought higher caliber talent by FAR. The logic that he isn't the right coach for us because we didn't beat a top 10 team is ludicrous.

Re: June Jones is the right coach for SMUGreat point on our expectations now lol we are now true fanatics we will be in the top ten by the end of the year mark my words Muhahahahahaha
Re: June Jones is the right coach for SMUJones is the coach for us right now. Recruiting has improved so dramatically under this man, and so has our W\L record. We simply still do not match up physically with many BCS teams. Much less one in the top 10. June will win his share of games and is laying a foundation for us to have a chance to be big time again. His is unorthodox sometimes, but that is part of his strategy, and I give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to play calling and personnel decisions. Like any fan, it is fun to question the coach, and I do. But when I compare JJ to PB? No doubt we are going in the right direction.
