Let's be seriousOur offensive line was porous. The problem was that it was supposed to be a strength.
Padron was awful in the two series he was in. I really thought he would start the second half. The onsides kick was the most ridiculous call I've seen in a while. The only thing worse than the call was the execution by the kicker. I don't care if he was signed an hour before the game, executing an onsides kick isn't that much different under any coach. Again, just horrible execution. I honestly beg anyone one to differ with me on this point. Our LB's were completely taken out of this game. They made almost no plays. JG's name wasn't called almost all game. Zach Line. Great game first half. Non-factor in the second. McDermott. Valiant effort, but not enough. Outcoached. Outplayed. Need a lot of adjustments before next week. Derail the Frogs!
Re: Let's be seriousLet's focus on next week. Even with this pathetic loss, SMU is STILL a lot better than they were 5 years ago. At least, America acknowledges SMU's existence! The Mustangs lost to a really good Texas A&M team - no shame there. Three wins in a row will ease the pain. Let's hang half a hundred on the Miners!
Let's be serious
I don't disagree. But until we beat UTEP, this is what we have. Go Ponies! Derail the Frogs!
Re: Let's be seriousi know we are all worried about BCS and maybe the ugly loss does hurt our chances, but I do think over half of the teams in the BCS right now would have gotten whalloped by Aggy in CS last night similar to what we did. heck, besides OU, i think Aggie will probably dominate every Big 12 team that visits Kyle Field this year including Horns by 2 touchdowns. We'll see.
Re: Let's be seriousActually we're not a whole lot better than 5 years ago when we missed a bowl game by a yard.
The onsides kick was a bonehead call. Odds aren't every good, and we had just answered A$M, and gotten back in the game 14 - 7. Also gambling like that shows the players that coach doesn't really think we can now play anybody anywhere whether we actually can or not. I like June Jones as a coach but he needs to GET HIS HEAD IN THE GAME. He should have pulled himself not Padron. May the forth be with us.
Re: Let's be serious
agree, told my son the same thing, who is gonna pull June for his braindead mental mistake? That is a gutsy call under certain circumstances but not when your defense has already been given 2 short fields, and after we settled down and just climbed back in the game.
Re: Let's be seriousits the kind of call that makes you just wonder about the guy.
Re: Let's be seriouscan we please move past the onside kick? if we pull that off, everyone is praising Jones for his aggressive approach and going into Kyle Field with an "in your face" attitude
I wonder why, after starting the game with 3 successful runs, we aren't criticizing Jones for deciding to throw on 2nd and 1? KP throws the pick that started the Aggie$ rolling. Again...JJ was being aggressive and our guys just didn't make the plays
Re: Let's be serious
throwing downfield on 2 and 1 is ok, i get frustrated when we throw 25 yards downfield on 3rd and 1. not last night, but plenty of times last season and previous. The onside was not a good call because you had already stressed your defense twice with short fields and they had shown they could not defend it. It was like giving Aggie a td if it didnt work. You only do that when your D can handle it and have a decent chance of holding for field goal at worst. Last edited by Hoop Fan on Mon Sep 05, 2011 10:22 am, edited 1 time in total.
Let's be seriousNo problem here with throwing downfield on 2nd and 1. It is essentially a free play because you should be able to get a yard on 3rd and 1. There really is no better time in a football game to take a shot downfield.
Re: Let's be seriouseveryone will agree that throwing downfield on 2nd and 1 is a "safe" call. That's the point. The onside kick was anything but a "safe" call.
JJ was aggressive and the guys didn't execute. Let's get over it and move on. We weren't going to win that game anyways and maybe we are better served by getting blown out than we would be losing a close game. I hope the guys come back angry and blow UTEP out of Ford
Re: Let's be seriousi'll get over it when June admits it was a mistake. Dont hold your breath.
he doesnt care what I think - and shouldnt. I just think the call was borderline demented. on to UTEP! I think we will be fine vs CUSA talent - just think this was a bad time for the team and the coaches to lay an egg. We will bounce back strong.
Re: Let's be seriousI loved the call. Showed some spine. They executed it in practice perfectly multiple times. Yeah, yeah, I know, Kyle Field, freshman, walk on, etc. save it. It's a simple kickoff. We weren't going to knock off Aggy without throwing some sand in their face and then punching them in the mouth. Much better seeing June trying to suck the life out of the cultists than simply marching us out for a scheduled beating and then telling Kate on the sideline "Well, I think we're about 1 1/2 recruiting classes away from really being where we need to be."
Aggy kickoff team was in full backpedal. We're only down seven. If that kick was even kind of sort of executed well, we have the ball right back in good field position. Do we win? No, most likely not. But the entire complexion of the game was changed by 2 mind-boggling throws in the first quarter.
Re: Let's be seriousYou are wrong. We just marched it down their throat. That call screamed out - "we think we need a fluke to stay close". You dont risk putting our D in their third straight short field situation. The D never recovered.
Re: Let's be seriousNot like A&M's offense was able to ever drive 90+ yards down the field and score on us or anything...
