How does Boise State do it?

Our recruiting has been about the same as theirs. Maybe Stallion or someone can shed some light on this. They go to Georgia (who has bigger, faster, stronger athletes just like aTm had compared to SMU) and beat them by double digits.

a) they have one of the most underrated QBs in the game. Kellen Moore is not only accurate, but he's a student of the game. Real smart kid who studies film and knows what to expect
b) they don't run a gimmicky offense like the "run and shoot". it seems like a more pro-style offense and the play calling is great.
but if they don't have Kellen Moore @ QB, they lose 3-4 times a year. He's the reason they're so good now.

So what about defense. How did their defense hold Georgia (who was bigger, faster, and stronger than Boise State)?

Top 3 reasons
1. JUCOs

Boise has JUCO's? I did not think they did or if they did not that many. I will check their roster.

I checked and you are correct. Only a couple of JUCOs. But I saw some sports special that detailed their recruiting once and there was a factor for them getting who they get. Maybe non qualifiers, or something else, but it does seem there was something. Apparently my senility does not allow me to recall.

They get a lot of late qualifiers. They aren't running on soph backups, they are a full strength team, they are well coached. Their whole offense is how you are supposed to run one: gimmicky as hell.
The lost art of faking your intentions, setting up for future deception, poker, chess. Peterson does it the best. They run whatever offense they need to based upon the talent they have.

They run a multiple formation offense. Somewhat of a spread hybrid. I think they call it the "Chameleon Offense."

Boise State has very low academic standards for athletes... They might be the NCAA minimum. Boise gets a lot of REALLY good players who weren't eligible for Pac-12 or Big 10

Guys its apple to oranges, There is no way you can compare playing GA who went 6-7 last year and had no business being ranked number 19 to a team that went 9-4 last year with their whole offense comming back. Also there is a big difference between kyle field and playing at the Georgia dome. these differences are 1) you are away from campus so you don't deal with people messing with you at your hotel. 2) you don't deal with people assulting the team bus on the way to the stadium. 3)you don't really have a loud student section 4) you get to travel more of your fans and have close to 25% of the crowd as opposed to about 5%.
And yes of course Boise is better than us but they have been good for thye last 10 years we are in our 3rd year of being competitive. Of courser they are ahead of us at this point. It does not mean we have been deficiant

Last time Boise played Georgia was in 03 and they got blown out. It was just when they were getting good. Kind of like us now

I think the point of the original question was, if you look at the recruiting classes of UGA the last 5 years and compare them with those of Boise for the same timeframe, there will be a similar disparity to that which exists between SMU and, say, aTm. If that's the case, how does Boise overcome this built in handicap?
I'd also like to know how Western Kentucky-one of the worst if not the worst teams in FBS since moving up from 1AA a couple of years ago-played within 14 points of Kentucky in the first game of the year. Kentucky isnt LSU, but I also dont see them going o-fer in the SEC and ooc this season. Same thing there...recruiting classes last 5 years WKU vs Kentucky?

you could not possibly have a worse eye for talent, if BSU played us now we would lose by 80...not because of a scheme, but because they have a lot of very talented players that are on par w/ most of the best talent in the country.
they have lost what, 4 games in the last 5 years?????? that's not done by coaching...you;re sounding like a Dawg fan who can't come to grips w/ the fact that the athletes BSU has are in FACT better than what they have, in just about every phase of the game.

The question I am asking you then is how is BSU getting those players?
