JG on "muffed" punt

On the punt near the end of the 2nd quarter, the ball hit our player and we recovered but it clearly hit our guy before the A&M guy touched it. The player it hit was #16 Ja'Gared Davis, yep he had some kind of tearaway jersey on. One minute they showed him in 16 and the next camera shot was his normal 56.

So was he playing gunner? Why the need for a number change? I realize they duplicate numbers, but you would think the other 56 would change their number since JG has to play on D as well.

If he was a gunner then he needs a receiver's number because he is lining up as an eligible receiver in the case of a fake punt.

mrydel- Thanks for the info. Didn't know that. Rules have changed a lot since the ol' days of single wing and soft leather helmets. :)

GO PONIES!!!

I changed my wording above. Did not have to be a "low" number, but rather just an eligible receiver number.
