I came here to write about Eric splitting time at tailback. To write about the fact that he could have run for 2,000+ multiple times if only he had gotten more carries.
But something made me go look up the stats before I shot my mouth off.
Eric already had more carries than any back in SMU history. Additional workload might not have been as productive as we think. Zach's yards per attempt is higher than Eric's (and also higher than Reggie Dupard, who gets often forgotten in this conversation).
No, I do not think that Zach Line is Eric Dickerson, not even close. I do realize that Eric played against tougher competition, each and every week. I'm not even sure that Zach is an NFL back.
But I do think that Zach (historically speaking) is a much better college running back than some of us (myself included) give him credit for.
