J.J. McDermott gives ponies best shot at QB

Postby ponyfan777 » Tue Sep 06, 2011 12:44 pm

J.J. McDermott will get the start at QB on Sat. vs. UTEP and gives the ponies the best chance to win ALL season. Who all agrees with me?

the 2 guys at noon on the fan radio station who evidently follow smu footbal extremely closely don't. they were all over june for pulling kp.
nice to know they are big fans and experts on smu offense.

JJ looks like the better quarterback...he needs to play. It's pretty simple.

I don't either. I think he gives us a suitable backup, but he is just that.

Look A&M is good and Kyle got flustered in the moment its not like he is the first or last QB that has ever happened to. At the end of the day he has more tools than Mcdermet has and should start. against CUSA level competition KP gives us the best chance to win. I hope MCD is playing on a every time you don't score you will be pulled lease because it is rediculous.

Both will get to play.
But after that performance, Kyle doesn't deserve to start.
June always works all of his QBs to be ready to play. JJ showed enough for me to be fine with him starting.
I am VERY curious to see how Padron plays whenever he gets into the game.

Kyle's stat line is impressive thanks to the Run N Shoot offense, but when was the last time he dominated?
I don't have the pleasure of going to every game since I am an out of towner... But I have not seen the Kyle of the Aloha bowl since then. Not one game. Not against even the worst teams in CUSA. Take away Z.Line and we are a 5-9 team last year.

He was bad in the Tulane game. Bad in the UTEP game. Underwhelmed in both CUSA Championship and the bowl game. Then he played the first two series of the opener like he never played a snap. JJ came out off the bench and put up impressive #s against a top 10 team. Why not give him a chance?

Sorry, but Padron's last 13 games do not merit him a shoe in for next weeks starter.

Our O hasn't put up big numbers in the last 3 games. And arguably, all three games were against good opponents. Not all of that can be hung on the QB. But a good deal can be hung on the QB. We have a little time to clear up the QB situation. Hopefully UTEP, NSU and Memphis are all bad enough to give us the breather to fix the QB position.

If McDermott is a better QB than Padron, then why wasn't he the starter to begin with? June had months to prepare for this game and knowingly started our 2nd best quarterback? I don't think so.

Based on his play in the atm game JJMcD deserves the start. Until he shows that he can't do the job then he should be rewarded with starting. I am disappointed in how KP started the game/season. He (KP) just needs to start 'getting it' and playing the system like it was meant to be played.

Seems pretty rash to base a decision to bench KP for the UTEP game after 2 bad series against the number 8 team in the country, especially after you went through all of those practices with KP as the starting QB. Maybe this is a cumulative thing...has he looked this bad in prcatice? I know he looked bad against UCF and Army last year, but thought that was a result of an injured ankle..?

Hope JJ will go with whoever he thinks gives us the best chance to win.

I am not saying Kyle won't be the starter again, and he very well might be our most talented QB. But he needs to show improvement. He hasn't shown it yet. It seems like our offense doesn't get going untill 3rd quarter. Defenses would be smart to folow A&M and start putting an extra guy in the box because Z.Line is our only consistent weapon. I hope Kyle learns from this and proves me wrong and/or JJ takes advantage and earns the starting spot.

Beat UTEP!
