Or possibly independent if Big 12 falls apart. See link.

Perfect! When Miami gets its players back and a slap on the wrist from the NCAA, Miami gets its "bitsh" back to slap around for the next 50 years!
Going West means no primetime TV--this move East makes sense--everything Texas does has to do with Television, not tradition or football. Plus, OU wants to leave their association with UT, not carry their smelly carcus to California.

It's a better academic fit, easier travel, and if ATM to sec implies one acc to sec, then a net positive for acc w tx

Norm was talking about this on the Ticket this morning. In terms of TV deals (ESPN) it makes a lot more sense than Texas forcing their way into a PAC-12.

I would love to see Texas in the ACC. Not only football, but the basketball games would be awesome.

How about us?. We are actually a good fit for ACC also - and they will need a travel partner

ACC is not known for strong FB. I think the travel would be about the same as PAC 12.

I kind of hope not since the ACC is the perfect fit for SMU, but if it was as their travel partner I guess I would be ok with it.

People in this thread...

We're not getting an ACC invite. Are ya'll crazy? And why the hell would Texas take us with them as their travel partner? TCU, Baylor, Tech, OSU, Mizzou, Kansas, K-State- all of those teams would go before us. Let's get real here.

Crazy? No. Unlikely over the next year or two? Yes. SMU actually fits the ACC model perfectly (Duke, BC, Wake, Miami, etc.). The AAC is a conference that puts a high level of emphasis on academic members, and to that end, SMU fits better than any of the aforementioned schools.
This should be in SMU's 3-5 year plan.
Duke and Wake have been in the conference forever. If the ACC ever dissolved, Wake would be up a creek. BC brought the ACC a new TV market, same with Miami to a certain extent. We have nowhere near the TV pull in DFW that BC has in Boston or UM in Miami

To be one of the surviving 4 conferences tHey have to expand their footprint and pick up more TV markets - and add 4 teams. They pick up Pitt and Syracuse, UT and SMU and they pick up huge market share. Their problem is too much NC overlap (Duke, Wake, NC and NCstate) - so they have to get to Texas and Pennsylvania to get enough new eyeballs if they are going to get to 16. That, or dump Wake which they should do but cant.

All Texas had to do was be a good partner and the Big 12 would have been the second best conference in a three super conference world.

Swofford and Texas have been talking for months. Also, SMU isn't going to the ACC unless there is a mass exodus by Maryland and some others.

it makes better sense for texas to join the big 10 in my mind as they seek to expand to 16

The problem for Texas is the reason the B12 is breaking up. TU does not want to give up their Longhorn Network. The PAC 12 will require them to make it a regional network with equal coverage of Texas Tech. If the ACC or any other conference wants Texas bad enough to let them have their network they can have TU. We also have ESPN acting like Darth Vader lurking in the background. They have tremendous influence on where everybody ends up. I believe it ESPN wanted us in the ACC and TU in the PAC12 it would happen. That is just how strong I think ESPN is.
