WHITEOUT SATURDAY

It's a bit early for snow and the forecast for Saturday is sunny and beautiful, but SMU is hoping for a lot of white on Saturday, Sept. 10th, as the SMU Athletic Department today announced a "WHITE OUT" for the home opener, when the Mustangs take on C-USA rival UTEP. Fans attending the game are asked to wear white to show support for the Mustangs.

look, i'm all for school spirit, and i understand the point of a white/blue/red out - intimidation. but it only works if EVERYONE does it (see: A&M Maroon) you have to have a sellout stadium, with the overwhelming majority wearing the same color. we're lucky to fill 60%. and unless we're giving every kid on a bus from wherever a white t-shirt too, this is a ridiculous effort.

another thing is that our colors are red and blue, so calling for a third "out" is just silly. this also creates confusion b/c not everyone is checking ponyfans, or follows the SID on facebook.

plus, i just bought 2 new blue SMU polos.

I'd be more interested in a "blue out" with blue jerseys. But that's just me.

I understand Stallion. For one thing, white is not one of our school colors (yes it is part of the uniform but not a school color). Next, the team, I would imagine is wearing red so we are not in the same color as our team. Now if it is announced that the team will be in the white road uniforms, I could understand a white out. But I just do not understand why we do this in both basketball and football when we could just as easily have a blue out or a red out.

And no, I will not buy the argument that everyone has a white shirt but not everyone has a red or a blue. If they are fans they need to get something red and something blue.

Sorry Brad. I love your work but this is a pet peeve of mine.

I am not done. Sorry for the rant.

No they did not get white jerseys, they blamed it on the athletic dept. by saying

they wouldn't let them sell white jerseys, Bob Sharp said that is a lie.

SID, I love you, man, but these have been epic fails for years. Coupled with our red and blue seats, it just looks silly when 40% of our 60% full stadium obliges.

Of course, since UTEP will be wearing white, this will continue the new SMU tradition of wearing the colors of our opponents to respect them.

Yes! I always wondered what it would be like to go out to a game in "white face!"

Are you allowed to wear white after Labor Day?
