So Baylor and Iowa Stat are threatening to sue if A&M leaves ...

Couldn't SMU, TCU etc have sued when the schools left the SWC?

If so - why didn't they?

No, it's because the SWC was an 80-year-old club with no departure policies, while the Little Ten/Nine is a den of suspicion that agreed to very strict and steep departure penalties only a year ago. Baylor and Iowa State have leverage that SMU, TCU, Rice and Houston would have loved to have and would have deployed to at least get more $$ out of the departures.

So if all the schools leave the Big 12 except Iowa State and Baylor do the bears and cyclones share a $200,000,000 pot of cash left over from all the schools leaving this year and last that each school leaving must pay? What a payday! I think they will be able to form or leave for another conference with $100,000,000 in the warchest. Last one staying may hit the jackpot.

No obviously better agreements--especially the one just written 11 months (or so) ago to keep everyone in line and the Big 12 together forever and ever!

No, they have the benefit of learning from the past 20 years of seismic shifts. There were certainly conference moves before Arkansas left the SWC: anyone remember the PAC 8? Or can name the *two* schools who actually fled the SEC, once upon a time? But smaller BCS schools in 2011 are a lot savvier than anyone was at the end of the SWC.
