UTEP (1-0) vs. SMU (0-1), 6 p.m. CDT Saturday (FSN)

Line: SMU by 20

Series Record: SMU leads 10-8

Last Meeting: 2010, UTEP 28-14

WHAT'S AT STAKE

Both teams are coming off disappointing starts, although UTEP managed to escape with a 31-24 overtime victory against lower-division Stony Brook. SMU fell behind early and never challenged No. 7 Texas A&M in a 46-14 loss at College Station.

KEY MATCHUP

UTEP quarterback Nick Lamaison vs. SMU secondary. Lamaison, a junior college transfer, threw for 365 yards and three TDs in his debut and faces an SMU secondary that allowed Texas A&M to complete 21 of 26 passes without an interception.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

UTEP: WR Donavon Kemp had four catches for 144 yards and the game-winning TD grab in overtime against Stony Brook.

SMU: QB J.J. McDermott will get the nod over three-year starter Kyle Padron after taking over in the first half of the loss at Texas A&M. Padron threw two early interceptions, and McDermott led the Mustangs to scores on his first two drives. He was 21 of 34 for 254 yards. Coach June Jones says Padron will play against UTEP.

I just want a win. I would prefer a dominating win on both sides of the ball and at least one successful onside kick.
